Setting eggs today...20th May...anyone else?

My little buffy, already a ball of fluff and love:

Chick #2, struggling to get right side up:

Chick #3 is out...
Think #2 and #3 are barred rocks.

Chick 2 still has the cap of his egg stuck to his back, looks like a little turtle.

I think another buff orp is starting to zip...

There is also a buff orp who has been making it pip hole bigger and bigger all day, but not rotated at all. I think its in trouble. Its started to yellow and dry out, but there's nothing I can do when I still have 5 other pips sat there

Well 2 babies were killed, one of our buffs is a horrible mother. She hatches them and throws them out of the nest. So I found one dead baby on the floor and the other is just not there... But i got the other eggs from under her and split them between the other 2 broodys. But one of the others had a piped egg and it hatched! One of the buff's eggs hatched too! Here is Butter, and not named.

Butter has the white face, we have no idea what this mix is, in the last hatch we had we got a blue one with a white face.. The white one is a White Leghorn/ Buff Orpington mix. This is the first one with some obvious Buff coloring.

Here is huka the blue one with the white face

Awww, they're precious....
Sorry about the bad mother...
My buff's have always been phenomenal mothers, but I guess there is always going to be a few who don't follow type. Sad about the dead and missing one though.

Nothing much new here...still 4 chicks, think another zipping. No progress on the two important ones - the Mille and the brahma...

OK.....I candled late last night when the house was pitch dark....and actually culled! (Boggles the mind)

So, from the 22 eggs I started with, 8 are "full". I couldn't tell if they are still alive or not....but ......

Anyway....lockdown!

I mostly get concerned when they've pipped for 14+ hours without progress, or when the made the hole bigger over a few hours but you still see the beak showing they aren't rotating.
That's what prompted my assistance this time. So far, the little guy is doing well enough that I can't pick him out from the general scrum.

All six were out this morning! I cleaned up their eggs and now everyone is fluffing up with more breathing room. I guess this little incubator exceeded my expectations; the only failure was infertile. The backwards egg was probably a result of its horizontal layout, though. The broody is clamped down on the nest and giving me that look which says "I don't remember anything nice you've ever done for me." With any luck, she'll have some cheeps under her to make adoption easier.

The grand total seems to be 3 Sussex/Cochin mixes, 2 Speckled Sussex, and one GSL/Sussex mix just for fun. The sex-link baby is a big, gorgeous fox-red chipmunk. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Congrats to everyone with babies this morning!
