Setting eggs today...20th May...anyone else?

Aww, look at those cuties...they look like they are display models or something. Love the visability of the little brinsea.

I think i'm at 7 chicks. I transferred 5 to the brooder and found I had two more - one must've popped out when I wasn;t looking! They are 3 buff orps and 4 barred rocks. 2 are still in the incubator. 2 were stuck, so I've started the assistance, and I candled the unpipped eggs - 2 moving, one internally pipped, one not yet.

One of the barred rocks was really peeping - kept up a continuous peep peep peep frpm the moment he went in the brooder, so he's been sat in my cupped hand on my chest for half an hour - asleep and finally happy. The buffies are their usual docile selves

I will continue to help the 2 stuck ones tonight, should be out by midnight, then leave the unpipped guys in the incubator overnight. Lucklily the brinsea recovers temp and humidity within a few minutes if its opened. I open just after one has hatched then I find humidity doesn't fall below 62%.

Alaskan: congrats on culling with confidence.

on the full ones all being textbook...

My babies that hatched this morning! Red sex-link on left, two buffs on the right. Anyone else think I have a female sex-link?
Looks like at least one pullet there. Congratulations!

I just went outside and heard some peeping under the broody! I guess her frequent food and water breaks didn't do too much damage. The nerve-wracking bit will be early tomorrow morning when I try to slip the incubator babies underneath her as well.

My broody hatched 3 on her own Saturday/Sunday. Sunday evening she was ready to leave the nest so I took the remaining 5 eggs and put them into my just-bought-that-day 2nd had incubator. 2 more hatched in the incubator that evening. One had a tiny bit of bleeding at the tail/but area. Second hatchling had white stringy thing left behind. I didn't want to put them under the broody until they were dry. Meantime, one died around 6pm tonight before it got dark. Don't know if it was bleeder or googoo chick. Mama has #4 now (she took first 3 out of the coop so hopefully she can't count). Two more eggs pipped shell...one more don't know what's going on. Hope everything continues to go well because I'm not home during the day to watch.

Underneath the Barred Rock hen there are 2 pips, 3 or 4 internal pippers.

Had to take 4 eggs in all from the Barred Rock and the Red sex link hens because they were behind in development. So I put them underneath the horrible broody, because we don't have an incubator.

Am dying to catch up on the last 22 posts BUT first, I have news to spread!!! I got my first Maran's hatch!! Nothing this morning when I left for work, but just got home and found one little beauty had hatched and was lying gorgeously amongst the others.

Now though, I need some help... I have found that another has pipped... but at the wrong end. I'm so glad I marked those airsacs, or I would not have had a clue! I candled it, and found it is in the air sac and very active. Is it likely that it tried to pip the wrong end then corrected its position? Or is it struggling and am I looking at claws in the airsac??????? Help!
