Setting eggs today 4/1/12 Anyone else?

yes you would count april 3rd as day one, so 4/ 20/12 is your 18th day with them hatching on the 23rd if all goes well. i also use a lg incubator. when i go into lockdown i cut a few sponges before hand and soak them in luke warm water then add them underneath the grate, and palce them on small lids, and they have to be small to fit under the grate. also i roll paper towels in the water trays and then soak them, they stay wet the whole time and really up the humidity. using this method i hatched 22 of 31 eggs last time. once i go on lock down i don't raise the lid for anything and i keep the plugs pulled. good luck with yours

Two more days until lockdown! I haven't candled since day 12 and everyone still looked to be alive and wiggling! I just checked 2 eggs because my temps were high in the incubator and they were still moving. So... No more candling until the night of the 18th when I put them in lockdown! YAY!

I candled last night, and so far of the 9 I have left I have no obvious quitters. I mostly candled to check the air cells, since this was my staggered hatch and they spent half of last week at 65-75% humidity. After the first batch hatched, I cleaned the incubator and let it dry down to about 25% humidity for a couple of days. Added water this weekend hoping to get the humidity to 35% only to have it continue climbing to 40%, 45%, and last night it was up to 50% humidity (stupid spring thunderstorm!) The air cells look ok to me, so hopefully they have lost enough moisture not to drown when they pip. I'm a little more anxious about this hatch than I was with my first because I've broken so many "rules" during incubation with this one. I guess we'll see this weekend.

My 8 I have left(out of 11) seem to be doing really well right now too. I also have a stagged hatch. My second batch being 1 week after the first.

I am a bit nervous about raising the humidity was well. As I said, I have rigged it so I can turn the other cluch while the first is in lock down, but no wait to regulate the humidity further without adding humidity to the second clutch so I will see how it goes. I put mine in early on the first so does that mean that thursday is my lockdown date?

I will candle for the last time Wed. or Thurs. lock down on Friday! I am so excited...have 5 under "mamasita" that should hatch a day or two later...

Another day closer. I think I saw a couple of eggs move this morning....Could be my eyes playing tricks on me....lol.

Sigh, I just can't stay away from the eggs. lol. I checked them out again tonight against my better judgement, and dropped one putting it back, luckily it didn't stink as it was a dead egg. The embryo looked about a week old. So I finished candling and pulled 2 more eggs that looked like the one I dropped(half clear) and they also both had embryos that looked like they died at about a week. My last 5 I can not see anything but the air sac. I hope that is a good thing.

On another note so far in my clutch that is due the week after these, all have little bouncey blobs in them.

At least you dropped a dud and not a live embryo! At this point, all you should see in good eggs is the air cell and lots of darkness. If your eggs are not very dark (light brown, light green/blue, or white/cream) then you are likely to also see some movement in the tiny spaces that aren't totally dark. But even if you don't see movement it doesn't necessarily mean they have died since at that stage there isn't much room to move around in there.

Just put 14 Barred Rock bantam and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte bantam eggs in my incubator. First time hatching Barred Rock's so I hope all of them hatch.

Tonight was the start of day 18! They are locked down. I can't tell what's developed and what isn't. These last couple days and nights have been hard for me to keep the temps stable. Figured, the first 2 weeks were fantastic - nice even temps. This week the whole thing goes to poo! I hate this incubator. Plain and simple. I need a cabinet incubator.
