Setting eggs today 4/1/12 Anyone else?

Finally got some babies today! Saw 2 pips super early this morning, came in this afternoon and had 2 baby chicks running around! We are up to 6 hatched chicks with 2 more pipping. They are all from my second set of amerucana/maran. Had to pull them out of the bator cuz they were wreaking havoc on the other eggs and one of the little amerucanas had part of her shell stuck to her back/butt. Took them in the bathroom with the shower running, got all 6 out, and they look great! Also took out an egg from the first batch I set, they were set a day earlier than these other guys but I have seen no signs of hatching (they had been developing just fine) gently opened up a small hole near the air cell but no peeping or movement DH helped me peel back the shell so we could see what was going on without damaging it if its still alive. But alas it was not, looks like last weeks tempature drop was enough to kill these little guys. Considering this is my second batch of eggs from this breeder that has gone badly I might do them in much smaller batches and pay more attention to them. So glad my other eggs were hardier! Congrats everyone on the beautiful babies!

The total is in! 100% hatch rate! All 12 eggs set hatched out and everyone looks happy and healthy!! Yay! This has been the best hatch ever!

I'll have to go outside after work and congratulate my hens and rooster on becoming parents again!

Congrats on the new babies everyone! And extra congrats to gwendalynn. It doesn't get any better than 100% hatch rate! They're adorable, are they BLRW?

I slipped 3 of the 5 chicks under my broody last night. The fifth chick I left in the incubator with a buddy because it still looked like Quasimodo chicken and it didn't look dry yet. This morning, momma hen is hunkered down on that nest still, but it's chilly outside (I was shivering in my jacket), and I think all three babies are tucked safely away deep under her big fluffy butt. And Quasimodo chick is still alive and looks much better this morning. I'll try adding those two chicks to the clutch tonight. Hopefully she'll take it better than she took us messing with her last night, she struck at me really hard. She missed, but yikes that would have hurt if she hadn't!

Congrats on the 100%!! And congrats to everyone else! I now have 10, the last two hatched overnight and there is one more making his way out! So, for my first batch it isn't too bad. Started with 15, two didn't make it and two there is no evidence of anything happening. Will let them stay in there while I am at work today just to make sure they aren't late comers. Ended up with three silkies that I got in the mail and 8 from my own hens. Better get hubby working on expanding that chicken coop! haha

I just saw chick #2 come out from under momma Chip. So far Dusty and Chip each have one baby, and I can hear more peeps coming from under them. Mommas will not leave the nest at all. Each girl has food and water standing by, and babies can partake too. I probably won't know how many hatched until Friday at the earliest.

This is Chip and her baby.

I put mine on Lock down Saturday and sitting on my hands patiently waiting i have 6 French BC marans and Pure Ameraucana's this is my first hatch and i am going batty! I did float the eggs before i put them into lock down and they were rocking and rolling there is one that is iffy but i left it. I am so excited to see if they will hatch.

I need to stop checking on them! I'm so happy though, it's hard not to be in the hen house every five minutes. Chip now has three babies under her. She's going to raise some Plymouth Rocks, or at least that's what I can see so far. Dusty is not showing me anything but that one baby.
