Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

This is my very first time hatching, the directions that came with my incubator tell what to move it up to for lockdown, I will have to check it out. I think I move it up from the 45% I have it now to 65%. I have been reading about dry hatching, but I thought I would follow the directions the incubator came with this first time around. So far I have done everything it says and I have only had one quitter and I really don't think that egg was viable from the start. Since this is my first hatch, I have not experienced an exploder, but I have read it them and I think it is a mess. :(

well I'm out of this one i waited until day 10 before calling it a flop instead of day 7 i was hoping something would happen but no luck
i have a new lot in now so hope third times the charm
good luck to the rest of you

So sorry to hear this dracon. Were they all quitters or not fertile or was it your incubator? Here is to your third batch! Hope you end up with some chicks. :)

My hen has two chicks under her! The third looks like it might've not made it as there's no pip or movement. But she has 2 adorable silkies under her :)

That is awesome...don't give up on that third egg just yet. I had one be a bit behind the others and it didn't have a pip or crack or anything. 2 hours later when I went to check, there was another chick. Can't wait to see pictures. :)

I have one hen who has three 3 week old chicks and another that had five 2 week old chicks. I say had because yesterday something got one of her chicks...I think it was one of our barn cats. The chick was sooo tiny, a little runt if there is such a thing. I keep telling myself that it is survival of the fittest out there, and that it is nature taking its course, but it is still sad. I can't believe that at this time next week I should have an incubator full of my neighbors chicks. Then I am ordering myself some eggs. I still need to decided which chicks I have from the hatchery that I am going to sell. I live in the country, but the nearest town has one more reading on an ordinance to allow backyard chickens. I am hoping it passes...I don't think I will have any problems selling some of my pullets, especially since the feed stores here are done with chick days. :)

I got a surprise yesterday read about it here: http://utterlyblessed.blogspot.com/ It's called, "what a surprise".

What a wonderful surprise...can't wait to see what it will grow to look like.

The eggs in my 'bator are all mutts from my neighbor...she is not even sure what all she has over there. They are all of her hatchery chicks she ordered straight run last year. So the parents should all be pure breeds. I also have her mutt eggs that were given to my broodies. Most of them are a combo of black and yellow checks, some are showing barring. One is yellow and has red and white feathering coming in and another is black with a brownish red head and neck and brownish red coming in on the wings. We have been joking about doing a Maury Povich thing when they get a bit older and playing a game of "who is your baby daddy" with her adult flock and the babies I have over here. They were all from brown eggs, so that narrows it down some, but she does have at least one EE roo.

Well I got home from work to find the newly hatched chick had fallen out of the nest and was getting cold. I quickly stuck it under mama and it seems to be doing wonderfully! I gave up on egg #3 because it was way too heavy and there was no response to movement, so I did an eggtopsy and it looked to be a Day 17 quitter. I'm going to be putting a few more chicks under mama to raise for me as well ;)

Here are my chicks!!
