Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

I set 42 eggs today. It is my 1st incubator attempt. I raised 3 Dominique hens with one Dom rooster, 4 Buff Orpingtons with a Buff rooster, and 2 Ameracauna with an Amer rooster. The hens really need some help keeping their men happy, so I'm hoping this will be a successful hatch. UPS delivered a 1588 Hova-Bator with egg turner today, and by 3PM it was rocking my babies to sleep. Hoping I can candle the eggs in 3 days to see if any of them are duds. Good luck everyone!!

We have a broody that we put eggs under on the first. I don't have a rooster so we got eggs from a neighbor farm. I have never hatched eggs yet. It'll be fun!!

Just set my little ones in there incubator.

My first group didn't make due to a humidity malfunction. Have 3 hygrometers going this time.

It would be interesting to watch the webcam. I'll tune in when you get it ready.

Midwest weather is so unpredictable — especially during the month of May in Kansas.
Yup! I used to live near Winfield! Now I am in Florida and it's just as windy on some days!
When you get your webcam setup, let us know the details because I'd be interested in doing the same thing.

I am thinking of getting one of those computer back-up battery/power strip thingies. They are designed to keep your computer running for a few mins if the power goes off to give you time to save your work. I wonder if they would keep an incubator going for more time since less power is used than a computer. We sometimes have power outages, - not much but it does happen during storms and such.
Anyone else try this?

May I join? I'm just setting today, and I've got ducks in the bator, so you'll all have fluffies before me, but I'd love to have some hatching buddies!

It's my first time - I've got 10 Ancona duck eggs that I just set at 7pm.

Oh yes, the more the merrier. I can't wait to see what everyone has.

Worldgirl: I saw in another thread about setting shipped eggs... I only waited 18 hrs this time on my shipped eggs. How long did you decide to wait?

This is so exciting, we have quite a crew!!!

So today is only day two for me, but I had to adjust the way the eggs were sitting in the racks and I thought since I had it open I would randomly candle a few...I candled six of my 18 and found embryos in all six. :) I am incubating these for my neighbor...she was excited to hear the news. She just attempted to hatch 34 eggs in her bator and only 5 hatched. So I am hoping I have better results and can help her replenish her flock. I won't candle again now till day 7.
