Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

bangarang64...it is sooo hard to wait, but I bet it will happen!!! How many did you set?

I am so excited for everyone. It still amazes me that roughly 21 days ago they could have been breakfast! Life is amazing and good. :)

I am up to 12/17 now. I have 2 that pipped hours ago and show no signs of progress and three that have never pipped. Hope we get a few more for my neighbor.

I forgot to mention the last chick that just hatched out...it is missing the toenail on both of the middle toes of each foot. How odd is that? Could it be a genetic thing? All the other chicks have been fine...nothing noticeable like that. It is odd...they look like ET finger. lol

I have one more that pipped and 2 that have not or can't see.

I am concerned about the 3 that have hatched. They are up moving about on their feet and are tall enough to reach the heating coil and fan.

Should I get them out of there even with a pipped one or am I over worrying?

They will be fine JD. But if the hatched ones are rolling the pipped ones around, and they are sort of dry, I would move them to the brooder. If your other eggs are supported though, don't worry about it. They will be fine. The one thing I learne,d this first experience, is to support my eggs. I lost 4 perfectly good chicks because they got kicked around too much and ended up upside down.

I AM DONE!!! It was a great experience! Now I have 12 Doms, 12 Buffs, and 2 Amer. 26 out of 32 fertile. I started with 41, but of course they were not all fertile.

Endulge me the guilty pleasure of boasting one more photo. They are the cutest things, but they don't stay this way very long. :)

What is the name of your incubator? I have heard one other person say the Little giant incubator was so short that her chicks could touch the heating coil and on did and got a little burn on its head. I would be taking them out. Do it as quick as you and and have a wet wash cloth with warm water ready to put in there to help get the humidity up.

They are so sweet looking. Just look at those eyes. And that one looks like it has a Mohawk.

day 21 started at 4pm. Nothing yet - maybe it's because Marans take their own sweet time?
I am hopping that is what it is because I have several Marans and Wellsomer eggs in my bator and nothing yet with them. I also have other eggs in there too. 16 that haven't done anything. Two on day 19 and now nothing.

My day 21 also started at 4pm California time. Haven't seen them move and no pips yet! Sooo anxious really hope they hatch. The wait is killing me! Haha
Well now it is day 22 for me and I have 16 out of 18 still sitting there. I have never had this happen before. They usually all hatch with in about 12 hours or so. I am leaving them in for another couple of days. But I get a faint smell when I go over to look. I am sure that there is a really bad one in there. Can't see into them as they are really dark eggs and thin shells.

Well the humidity dropped sometime during the night (60%). And I stayed up til 1:30 and was back awake at 6:00 this morning. Grrrrrr

The pipped one hadn't made any more progress and the hatched one were hitting their heads on the heating coil.

So I went in....glad I did.

Removed the hatched. They are doing great.

The pipped one was shrink wrapped and put him in a steaming bathroom. So went ahead and popped a small hole in the other two. One was so not developed enough and the other one was shrink wrapped (too late, lost him).

I went ahead and helped the pipped one start to get out of his shell. WOW...first for me. Talk about nervous.

He is now out of his shell and trying to stand. Finally has one eye open. Cross your fingers ... he is so much weaker than the others were.
