Lutz I had some of mine due in two weeks stacked while the others were in lockdown. Since I had the shipped ones in a cartons upright for the first week without turning, I just stacked them. Now they are laying on thier sides being turned like normal eggs. That might give you a few days to see how the guinea eggs are going to do, and won't hurt anything since all the others are shipped. Good Luck with them.

Well, been off for about a week and it has taken me a whole day to catch up on the thread. Congratualtions to all who have hatched and are now enjoying their own little fuzzy butts!!! Cinderella is doing great with hers. They are about 10 days old and look good! She is such a good momma! Nutmeg is being a very dutiful broody and doesn't get off the nest. I put food and water by her and she hasn't touched it. I have to check her eggs every evening and remove the "extras" that are laid. Thankfully, I thought to number them at the beginning and it has paid off! She started with 12 eggs but I kept finding 2-3 out from under her so I figured that was too many for her though she is much bigger than Cinderella. Since that was in the first 2-3 days, I just removed 4 and let her keep the rest. Wednesday night, my son and I candled them and removed one. It was just a flat dark mass. The rest showed good veining and slight movements. I will recandle 2moro or Sunday and see how it is progressing. Nutmeg is one of my 2 Spice Girls (her sister is Cinnamon) that were rescued from the 4H fair when the owner just left them. They were blue ribbon winners too! The guy that runs it says some people do that every year! Guess where I will be next year to rescue the ones that are left!!! Anyways, now I have my light wheaton/gray Ameracauna, named Ghost, who has decided to go broody too!!! It IS CONTAGIOUS!!!! She now has 6 under her and they are numbered too since she nor Nutmeg have done well when I tried to move them to a separate broody cage. I see Ghost get off the nest everyday and go eat, poo and drink. She told off a BO who decided to help her keep the eggs warm yesterday while she was out taking care of the basics. Funny how you can understand what they are saying!!! My friends love to hear my chicken stories! So I figured Nutmeg should hatch on or about the 26th and Ghost about the 30th! DH says no more!!! Guess we'll just have to see!

Hello Everyone!
I wanted to thank you all for supporting me through my first hatch. The last 3 eggs I had did not hatch. 1 was scrambled inside and the other 2 had chicks, but were not fully developed. I am excited that the one that did hatch are very healthy with no crooked toes or spayed legs. I have 4 very heathy RLW chicks that are doing great! They are much more lovable than the chicks I purchased at the store, especially the first one and last one that had hatched! The one I assisted out of the egg is smaller than the others, but is quite the snuggler! I am so in LOVE with them! I will post pics as soon as I can figure it all out

mskittydjs~ how are your broodys doing?

Congratulations Momsflock!!!!

I am glad that you are ok with the last three that didn't hatch. Sometimes I wonder if I could have done something different to increase my chances of successful hatches but then I am reminded of one of my mom's most favorite sayings..."Don't count your chickens before they hatch!!!" And now I really know what she meant!!!

Also so happy that they are so friendly to you! My little ones won't come near me and if I get too close, momma is loosing her mind. A few days in a row, the babies found every little hole they could get through and be on the other side of momma...trying to help them out almost cost me my hand!!! If she could have gotten through the chicken wire, she would have ripped me apart!!

My broodys are doing well. My son and I just candled 2nite and with Nutmeg, we aren't sure on 6 of the 7. I have been meaning to get a better flashlight and now I will 2moro~! Ghost's eggs were a lot easier to see through. 6 of the 7 are great with great veining and you can see the little black spot with movement!!!

One had nothing and when my son cracked it, there was no development at all. So now she has 6 for sure developing and we"ll see 2moro with the new flashlight what Nutmegs look like. My son was so upset! He doesn't like the idea that Nutmeg might only have one baby but I bet I could easily transfer some day olds bought chicks to her and she would be good so I will check with our farm supply places and see what they have coming in.

Don't forget to post pictures!!!

Wouldn't be fair for me not to update...I have a Brahma chick!! I noticed the pip about an hour ago and he was really aggressive about getting out. So exciting since I got nothing from my last batch.

To recap, I started with all shipped eggs - 18 guinea eggs, 12 brahmas, and 12 black copper marans. I candled all on Sunday (day 18) and pitched many, but not bad for shipped eggs. I still had 9 guinea eggs, 2 brahmas, and 6 marans. Yes, my awesome little flashlight could see through the maran eggs. One brahma hatched this morning, and I think the other is no good, but I kept it because I wasn't positive. Yippee!!!

Got to go get the brooder ready.

They were split between my LG and my Brinsea Octagon 20 and honestly they both seemed about even as far as what developed. The Brinsea kept a very constant humidity, and the LG dried up often. I didn't measure humidity in my LG, but I'm guessing it hovered at 15-20 if that. The Brinsea stayed at about 35% the whole time with little intervention.

I have the guinea eggs in my LG and am hatching in the brinsea. I'll move the guinea eggs over in a couple of days for lockdown.

I built a new incubator and have been running it for several days to insure that it hold the temperature. This morning I sat 28 bantam eggs and now I'm anxious for them to start hatching as I will be able to see all of them.
