Setting Eggs Today? I am, hatch with me?

Well, my impatience is starting to show. I brought 5 guinea keets home from the feed store today (and an americauna!). Since I only have 4 eggs that look hopeful for this hatch, and only have two keets, I kind of felt like I needed to do something to make sure I started with 8 or so. Yes, some kind of chicken math made 4 eggs + 2 current keets + 5 new keets equal 10. It crossed my mind to pretend like they already hatched so my husband's eyes won't bug out when he sees the third brooder in the dining room!

These keets are SO much more obnoxious than the 2 I bought a couple of weeks ago!! They won't shut up and have a shrill loud peep. My other two were just starting to feather when I got them - these are brand new...hopefully that's the difference. It sounds like a car alarm is going off in my dining room

vs. the other 2 that have a cute little cockatiel like voice that sounds like they are saying "pretty bird". And, 2 of the new ones tried to bite me!!

I love it, Lutz!! I am dying to see what keets look like! Chicks peep more loudly when they are cold, is your brooder warm enough? Just a thought, if that's not it, you just got me!

I have 10 hatched now. I recandled the only one that hasn't pipped yet when I got home from my bus run, and it was moving that time. My chick from the egg I had cracked is still hanging in there.

Momsflock, my previous hatches nothing happened until day 21, don't fret yet.

Well, I need to go to work, I will check in with you all this evening.

so far besides the one that hatch, he is still in the bator, can i leave him a little longer in there because i have a least 2 of the shipped eggs with a pip

AAaaww! Lutz! they are so cute!

I just love the chipmunk stripes. Are they any quieter yet, are they settling in?

Well, my next round of shipped eggs arrived, they are in good shape, no ruptured air shells a few are a little distorted. The WORST of these eggs look like the best of the ones which are in the incubator now, so I am hopefull. As soon as the last pipped chick hatches I am going to put the new ones in.

Glad you got those new fluffballs out Erica! I hope I get at least one or two. I'm going to feel awful if there's one that dies this far along. I know it will be my doing (or my Little Giant).

So glad the new eggs came in!

Kinda mixed feelings about it! Had placed 12 eggs, Cinderella got rid of one, 11 left. 7 hatched (between Monday and this morning) and my son and I just went out and candled the remaining 4 eggs. We could see the air sacs in all 4 but when we gently shook them, we could feel the sloshing in 3 and then no movement in the 4th at all. As a 12 year old boy, he wanted to know what was inside and DH had a fit...Not in the house!!! (Like I was really gonna bust a bad egg in the house!!)

So we put all 4 eggs in jars and with expert precision, we broke the shells. 3 of the 4 ( that we could feel the sloshing in) were full of liquid. The 4th had a dead baby in it. From the photos I researched, it looks like it stopped growing about day 16 or so. So thankful that none of the 3 busted under momma and the babies!! I am torn now between leaving them in the cage that she brooded in (when I go out there and start talking to them, they pop their little heads out and come check me out!) or moving them to the large dog house which would be on the ground and then momma can take them out with her when she wants. Only a few of my 28 girls are friendly and I so want these to be. They already come over to me and walk up in my hand and they arent even 3 days old yet. Will definitely get a family photo to post 2moro!! We ended up with 4 blondes, 2 blacks and a gray one! Can't actually tell you what they are since I took eggs from all the chickens and we have BO, BA, PR, RIR, BR, SLW, Americauna ladies and BO, PR, Americauna and Dominique Roos! All 7 look different and some have fuzzy faces already but I can't wait to see what they end up looking like!

Still praying for you all! Keep us posted on your progress!
