Setting eggs today. I'm a hatching virgin.

Maybe it's the hand weights. I graduated to 6lbs weights so I can ue my 4 lbser to seal the bator. Sorry it's a biggest loser thing. The humidity in the room they are in is at about 40%.

The hand weights are a great idea, I was wondering if mine is sealing right. Unfortunately now I am a little worried as all of my thermometers are reading from 95- 102. Ugh, though one says exactly 99.5. I have my hygrometer calibrated and it's reading about 52%, I am hoping that is good. I did add in a little water today, and it went up a few degrees.

I am hoping for KellyHM luck!

Got my fan today hooked it up and also added the egg-mometer. Temps are all over the place. But the fan should take care of that. I'm waiting until day 7 to candle.

Last night I did a day 7 candling using a led flashlight, it wasn't the best quality but I could certainly see movement and blobs, not really clear enough to see veins, I had 2 iffy ones out of 11 so I just kept them in there (what exactly does a quiter look like?). This is includes refrigerator eggs from my in laws, yippee!! I hope they make it.

How's everyone's batches going? Have you candled yet?

I candled two days ago. Out of my seventeen eggs, one was clear, one egg was too dark to see anything, and the other 15 look good. I think my thermometer is not entirely accurate though, and that my temps were a bit low. I've remedied it, but do you think I'll be a day or so late on hatching?

P.S. It was so fun to see anything at all. I'm definitely getting excited to meet my babies!

What are you guys doing for brooders?

We candled last nite and have about 5 that we could see really clear, the other 5 seemed to be empty. We were so excited, becuz we had recieved the eggs from a co-worker of my dads and they had been in the frig for a day or two. It was so cool to see them move!

Thats neat I am also incubating 5 refrigerated eggs, though I did candle again last night and I think only 2 are possibly developing.

Hi all......I had joined this thread 'cause I too am basically a virgin ! I'm now on day 10 and have been unable to candle my eggs. I've sort of given up on that part. I'm using a HUGE LED flashlight and have even taken a styrofoam cup and cut a circle in the bottom, sticking cup over LED and put egg over hole. I know I'm old and half blind but it's like the egg shells are too thick. They're Ameraucanas...and are heavy shells.
Any suggestions on candeling or should I just leave them and see who hatches...or explodes...or wait until Friday night, day 12 ??? I just don't like to keep opening 'bator and dropping the temp and humidity.
Thanks for suggestions.
