setting eggs tomorrow.... 3-21-12 who wants to join?

do i have to calabrate it right away?! i thought they where good to go right when you turned them on?! oh no! i was about to set my eggs!

The humidity level is used to control the rate of evaporation in the eggs, so I don't think it's critical right now. I always calibrate mine because sometimes they are inaccurate, for instance, the one I am using is off by 9%, but it's a cheap model. If you have something better then yours might be good to go. It can be calibrated overnight though, and I don't think it would harm your eggs to have them in the incubator overnight while you check the accuracy of your hydrometer.

WELL! sorry to let you guys down, but since my eggs where shipped, and i dont know hardly anything about hatching eggs, i found out i have to wait until tomorrow to put them in the bator....! so i will be a day behind you guys. LOL. oh the joys of hatching eggs for the first time!

Nothing ever seems to go as planned.

I'll join, even though I'm a bit ahead. I set eggs on the afternoon of 3/20. I've got them at my son's preschool though. It's an exercise in patience- I can't obsessively check on them. They are going to be out of school on spring break from days 10-19, so I think I'm going to take them home during that time so that I'm not relying on the director to get in the school and add water.

I set 3 BCM eggs, 3 lavender ameraucana eggs (daddy may or may not be lav ameraucana as well), and 1 lav amer/bcm split (daddy unknown).

No let down at all. I"m right there with you because I don't know anything about hatching eggs either. :gig My broody hens always hatched their own. This will be my 2nd time putting eggs in the incubator because NONE OF THE EGGS HATCHED THE FIRST TIME !!!!!!!!!! I was so upset. I was a first timer when I did it, so I'm a first timer again because I lost all of the eggs. I"m hoping for a good hatch this time. :fl

I was given a dozen French Black Copper Marans and a dozen Black Copper Marans courtesy of Mr. Robby at JamesMarieFarms in Church Point, LA. I told him about my disaster with my first batch of eggs and he was so nice and kind to give me 2 dozen eggs free. I am excited. :celebrate
