setting eggs tomorrow.... 3-21-12 who wants to join?

just went and checked on them and the temp was at 94... is that bad? i turned it up just a litttttle smidge... in hopes it will go back to around 99-100. it was chillin at 99 for about half a day. then i put them in and BAM! down to 94, do you think its because the eggs where room temp so it brought the temp down when i put them in to 94? or can they do that.... i know when the start to develop they genarate heat so it gets hotter right? what about the other way around....

ALSO, im using a little giant syrofoam incubator. it sucks at keeping the heat in (i think)..... BUT the lady i am barrowing it from said oh i just turn it on throw some eggs in and leave them alone.... (or so and so....) it seems to me it is a whole lot more complicated then that... hahahha she made it sound oh so simple. If only....

OH and i turned the egg turner off for the first four days. so its not going... someone here told me to do that since they where shipped eggs.... hmmm i really hope this works.

HUH? could you explain how this works...? and what to do? sounds like a good plan, but i wondering since you said that you turn your own eggs? I have an egg turner in.... hmmmm

hi there....it's because you just set in the eggs....it happened to me back on my first hatch in feb.....i had the bator running for 2 days it temp was great, as soon as i set the eggs it went down to 93...i was all paranoid and started adjusting the temp.....i made a thread of this issue and i was told that it was because of the eggs and that it would go back to its original temp but it takes a long time to get the inner temp of the egg to the incubation temp required....i advice the same as i was told......dont mess with it and let it set alone.....the temp will go back to the 99 you had once the inner temp of the eggs regulate themselves to the bator......

We would like to join in too!! We set on wed. the 21st. my wife,kids and I are first timers so this is all new to us. We put in 30 "mutt" eggs and the humidity is running about 45-50% and i have not added any water at all. Should I add a little water? Thank you

I wouldn't add more water, but I'm in the "dry incubation" camp. If you want better explanations, do a search for it- more experienced people do a much better job of explaining it than I could.

But, I keep the humidity around 35%-40% up until lockdown, and then I crank it up to 80% or so.

OH yea, and im sooooooooo excited for my first time hatching eggs, I will have others that will be hatching at the same time!

I would love to join =) I put 15 eggs in on 3/19. My husband bought me a little giant forced air incubator with an egg turner for me so I could try hatching my very first eggs. Right now we have a blue cochin rooster, silver laced cochin hen, 2 partridge cochin hens, black cochin hen, lavender orpington hen & 1 golden comet hen. Should be interesting to see what I get...lol I sure hope I get some to hatch.

I added another dozen last night, so they'll be 1.5 days behind my original batch. I have a total of 37 in there now! There are 5 empty holes in the turner, and they're occupied/blocked by the dig. thermometer.....otherwise I'd have 42 in there.

since i will have mine on a "no turn" policy for the first couple days, i was hoping maybe you would tell me how you do it, and then convince me your ways better and i would turn them by hand the rest of the way and take the turner out... LOL just a day dream. i wish the turner was only like a dozen big. so it wouldnt take up the whole bator.... ugh!
