setting eggs tomorrow.... 3-21-12 who wants to join?

I'd bump the temperature back up and try not to fret too much. Hopefully everything will be ok.

You wouldn't toss them before day 23 or so anyway, so just try to leave them be.

DirtCreature, I'm cracking up at you deciding you get some of the other chicks. I bet you'll have a great hatch this time.

I would just let them alone. Make sure your humidity is up. 97F isn't that bad. It might just take them a little longer to pip and hatch. Personally, I would not have kept mine in the cartons because not all of them pip at the correct end and so those that may be turned around won't have the room to crack and come out because of the carton. I always took mine out of the cartons at lockdown and just laid them in there so they would have the room to pip, zip and hatch. It also gave me more of an opportunity to see what was going on with them.

Help someone please!!! I got up this morning and the temp was down to 97F.

I have my eggs in an egg carton so I can not tell if there is any movement. I do not hear chirping or any thing. And as far as I can tell none of them have pipped!

I am using a homemade still air styrofoam incubator. I put them into lockdown a day early

and was wondering if that mattered.

Should I open it up and feel for movement or try to candle one of them to check?

Please, someone advise me on what I should do.

When is it too late to take them out of the cartons? I thought if you had them setting all that you had to keep them like that.

I would think if none are pipped and you can keep the humidity and temp OK do it.

JMO.... i would hate for you to do this and something happen bad.

weigh the risks, if you open it to take the cartons out, are you going to hurt them by losing humidity and temp, or would you be willing to take that risk to have them out of the carton. then decide. take action and stick to whatever you decide. I noticed some of the bad decision making Ive had in my LIFE has been because i changed my mind and not stuck to my original plan. THATS JUST ME. (it might be more so that i don't like being indecisive or indecisive people.) LOL

Two more have hatched! A bcm and a bcm/lav am mix.

The other bcm is about halfway pipped, I bet she's out soon.

#5 is out! She's a black copper marans, and had been pipped almost 24 hours.


The BCM/lav am mutt looks like it'll be really pretty. Instead of being jet black where a bcm is, it's a dark silvery gray color. Can't tell if the legs will be feathered yet or not.

At this point, I only have one left to hatch. It's pipped, but nowhere near ready to come out. I'm hoping she makes an appearance by 3:15 today.



I do find it interesting that I kept humidity fairly low for the hatch, maybe around 35-40% during incubation. When the first BCM came out, there was a lot of goop in the egg. I feel lucky she didn't drown. I can't tell yet on the second chick, she still had a bit of yolk sac attached to her (mostly detached, and looks like scrambled egg, so I'm not worried) and I don't want to take her out of the incubator yet.



The lav am eggs were dry inside. So, I do think it's true that BCM need lower humidity to hatch well.
