setting eggs tomorrow.... 3-21-12 who wants to join?

They're awfully cute, KuntryGirl. Sorry your hatch rate wasn't fabulous.

Dirt Creature, what happened?

CityChickens, I would absolutely take one out and candle it, but I have almost zero self control when it comes to candling....

cici_p, how is your hatch going now?

Oh, DirtCreature - I was just thinking of you today, wondering how things went this time. What day are you on? Could it be that they are just behind? I don't remember what kind of incubator you have, but it could be the incubator. Is it still air or does it have a fan? My neighbor has a still air Hovabator and has never had a good hatch. One or two out of 20-30 eggs. I've never had that bad of a hatch until I borrowed her incubator - same thing. This year I bought one with a fan, and built-in hygrometer, and I had 2/3 of them hatch. I hope things go better for you next time.

Idk if its the eggs or what, they where shipped.

i had to go buy one single chick today at the local feed store, that isnt so local.... (its 15 miles away) so that my one that hatched wouldnt be alone. ugh.

I have another batch in the LG right now going into lockdown soon the hatch day for those is April 19th. so.... those are shipped aswell, but they where packed oh so well and all the airsacks by day 14 where healed and i only had to get rid of 2-3 so far... thats good.

I put THIS batch in on march 22nd later in the day....so idk when the hatch day is.... yeterday or today. heck idk.... i was just going to ask someone what the day would actually be.

I have a (barrowed) LG still air for 1-18 and a hm bator made out of a coleman cooler and IncuKit (which i LOVE) for lockdown...

The single blue cochin egg i had looked promising and i know i shouldnt have gotten so excited about it, when i put it in lockdown i candled it, it was moving and all good, now when i candle it its just still. i think it died.

one egg, i took out and opened it must have died right after i put that one in lockdown cause it was moving when i did.

Another is questionable,

and the last (besides the one i helped) is so dark i cant see anything, so idk.

thats my story... LOL

Are you getting shipped eggs because you're looking for a specific breed of chicken? If not, maybe you can pick some up locally and raise your own that way. Hatch from their eggs next year... I've never had shipped eggs, but from what I've read on here, it's a gamble. I'm glad this next batch is looking better. I'll be interested in knowing how it goes for you.

so i opened the other eggs, two full termers, one had a hernia around its belly button. so I'm kinda glad it didn't hatch. My blue Cochin, was term and never pipped. sad

the other and last egg was rotten as all heck... LOL don't know how that one slipped by me, but hey, I'm new at this so...
