Setting eggs tomorrow, anyone want to join?

LOL yes it would be a bummer to come up with a zero after they got this far. I had them in a turner and we just laid them on their side with the bigger part of the air sack towards the top. Humidity is at 75%. Now we just have to find a way to get out of Easter dinner on Sunday so we can watch.

That's funny! This is why I'll have a webcam set up and streaming while I am not home, I can access it through a app on my phone. I'm hoping for a couple Easter chicks, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I have all the eggs in cartons...like this...

The D'uccles are #4-8.

Dry incubation, so there is no water in the bator right now...it's holding steady at 30%. I just candled again (I won't touch the D'Uccles from here on out) and they are very close to the air cell now and the rest of the egg is completly dark..

This is great. I have wondered about hatching like this. As opposed to taking out the rails in mine and letting them lie flat. Oh and just FYI in my last hatch I had standard and bantams (silkie) in at the same time and the silkie was the 2nd to last egg to pip and hatch out of 8.

It's sooooo quiet here...what are my fellow hatchers up to?

Mine are still doing well. I am on the fence about when to go into lock down. The egg went in on a Monday around noon. This incubator is apparently famous for early hatches though..? my friend used it last and some of hers hatched on a tuesday night when they were only due on a friday!!

so I am thinking I will lock down Saturday night. WDYT? And they have been standing up for incubation in an auto turner. I just read someone saying that "they way they are started is the way they should stay.."?? so should I take out the rails and put them in cartons like the pic above? I just worry the cartons will wick the water or get soggy when I mist.

What day is today for you?

Do you have styrofoam egg cartons? Can you do a sponge in a jar instead of misting...I don't think I am going to need to mist...so I'm not sure...I have the paper cartons and they haven't gotten wet...but yes, leave them upright if you started them upright.

Yes I have loads of styrofoam ones. Totally didn't think of that! Today would be day 18 at noon, as this coming monday at noon would be 21 full days in.

Lockdown at noon today then!! What are you waiting for?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

We can hatch together!!!

Just make sure you cut holes in the bottom of the cups so the air continues to circulate around the eggs

well I'm west coast so I have about an hour to prepare lol I guess I'll go find and cut up some styrfoam cartons. I'm really torn though...whether to do it that way or lay flat.

Seems to me the chicks can roll into the best position for hatching if they are laying flat...so flat I shall lay them.

I don't know what to do! I just cut up the styrofoam cartons and put them in but they don't seem very stable...like if one moves or once they hatch it's going to be a jumbled mess if chicks are climbing all over the others.
