Setting Eggs Tomorrow Morning 11/5 - Anyone Else??

Okay, so I set three eggs under my broody on Thursday, and today she has six. Hmmm....someone has been laying in her nest. I moved her and the six eggs into a dog crate I set up in the coop. It took awhile for her to settle down and then I scooted the eggs back under her. I don't know if this will work. It's her first time at motherhood and my first time as a poultry midwife.

I don't know if having chicks in MN in November is such a good idea, but she thought of it first!

Yah, those darn chickens! Aren't they wonderful???

Don't forget to use a Sharpie to mark the six eggs .... because those "someones" will still lay in her nest, or she'll steal eggs from others, and they won't all hatch at the same time.

Mark the six and just gather any new ones that show up.

I didn't do that until my first broody had been gathering eggs for five days.... and she went broody on 3 eggs, originally - only ONE of which was hers. Only one hatched, too - not one of hers. But that was my very first GrandChick!

I set 15 eggs yesturday, 12 bantam WLR Cornish, and three mystery eggs, could be pure white rocks, white rock x WLR Cornish (Standard), or White rock x red broiler. We will see! Hopefully. I took my incubator to my shop because the temp stays the same in the room there, vs here at home where the temps fluctuate like crazy (old house). So far temps holding steady in my HB. Happy Hatching Everybody!

I should be getting a hygrometer today or tomorrow (finally). That will make me feel a lot better knowing what the humidity is in there. The temp has been steady...so that part is going well and I have the automatic egg turner, so that's all set too. Looking forward to candling once we hit the 10 day mark.

11/05 I started 24 Orps and 16 Marans. These were shipped eggs so I'm just a little bit
nervous. 11/07 I had 5 KC ducks hatch!

I sat 12, 5 infertile, lost two that never pipped.
Total hatch 5. I have 26 Marans due to hatch 11/18..

I just candled the eggs under broody and can say for certain that 5 of the 6 are developing. The sixth is iffy, so we'll let it be for now. Another Java hen is trying to sit on some eggs. Is broodiness contagious???? We marked the four eggs she's started with but didn't move her to a broody box. We don't have a convenient place for her until the first bird is done. Anyway, every afternoon when we get home, she's in a different nest box sitting on the wrong eggs. I don't know what will come of the ones she started with, but we'll just watch and wait. We'll see if she persists or not.

I have 7 going into lock down tomorrow out of my 15. 7 of the shipped eggs did not do well. One had a blood ring, the others were just scrambled. 5 look great though, nice and dark. One of my own eggs didn't develop, the other two are dark and look good as well. We will see, 'cmon peepers. Oh and I am pretty sure my own eggs will be pure white rocks. How is everybody doin'?

I only have one out of the four left. I don't believe it will make it. I haven't seen movement.

We are going into lockdown tomorrow night and keeping our fingers crossed!
