setting eggs tonight!! anyone else?

CaliChick, You do NOT have to hatch 24 eggs. That is just for one of the contests...so now, no excuse...come join us! lol

Welllll, I was just thinking maybe I could experiment with 2 dozen Trader Joe's fertile eggs. I really don't want any more chickens, but I could probably sell them on CL for Easter. It would be a fun incubation experiment that might end up paying for itself. (And SO unlike the stress I've been under to hatch these shipped silkie eggs.)

Is this the hatch-a-long that starts March 17? If so, that would give me plenty of time to rest-up before starting another incubation!

Yep, set the incubators on March 17th. With trader joes, I think you could safely rule out winning the best hatch rate contest LOL!

I actually have 7 serama eggs that should hatch in the next day or so. They were in a different incubator. Got the first pip this afternoon, in fact. There's also 6 duck eggs that are due on the 26th. I've already contacted a few people about more eggs....

On another sad note, my 1 hatched chick didn't make it. It died this afternoon.

I float tested all my remaining eggs. They all floated with about 20% of the egg above water, but there was no movement. So last night I eggtopsied every one of them. All 20 of them had fully developed dead chicks.

One of them was shrink-wrapped, but the rest were ok. Some had almost completely absorbed the yolk, but the majority were still in that process, and 2 had their intestines hanging out still. Darn heat spike!!!

Sorry to hear about your chicks LaGenia. Are you the one that hit over 110? I'm trying to decide if I will eggtopsie tomorrow (Thurs.)

or wait one more day. Friday will be day 25 for the last egg I put in. I'm kinda feeling a little chicken about eggtopsying, no pun intended.

Mine hit 105 ( or maybe 108?), but it wasn't caught for over 12 hours. My daughter turned the heat up while getting ready for school (she's always cold), and forgot to turn it back down.

I set 2 Silkie, 6 Blue Cochin, 7 Cochin/Light Brahma mix, 1 RIR, 1 Legg'ern mix, on 2/12/12. Hoping for a good hatch rate.

Started my very first hatch on monday night, two days ago. It was going to be a dozen, then turned into 41, incubator to max capacity. Can't seem to do anything small! I have sizzles, ameracaunas, hamburgs, blue laced red wyandottes, and polish. Both people I got eggs from kept giving me more and more and suddenly by one dozen turned to two turned to 41. Ha. I also have cream legbars and swedish flower hens in a friends incubator because I was too scared to put them in mine for my first hatch. They were set today. Very excited! Very nervous! Keep wanting to candle them and then thinking... has it only been two days?!?

Papa Brooder, I understand your excitment! I've been reading all the previous comments and it makes me wish mine were ready to hatch!. Coming up on day 4 for my eggs. Think I'll candle a few. Question? What is "Zip" I know what the pip hole is. Just learned about the internal pip. Didn't know you could help chicks out and have them survive? I tried helping two that were piped for 2 days last summer and they did hatch, but the feet were deformed.
