Setting Fertile Eggs Under Broody Due to Hatch November, Come Join Me!!!

I just found another broody hen! She was nesting in an old feed bag on the front deck area of my house. I hadn't even noticed her missing from the main coop (shame on me!) She is just a young pullet and I wasn't even sure if she way laying yet. I was sweeping the deck area and went to pick up the bag and there she was!!!

Let's hope she is a good mumma because I snuck her eggs out from underneath her and have replaced them with 14 of my modern game bantam eggs. I candled those that I got out from under her and a few were developing but most were infertile. That is not surprising with Pekins. I felt bad just throwing her eggs away but I am keen to get some moderns on the ground for next show season and I have enough laying hens.

oh thats so good i wish at leat one more of my hens would go broody, but most have had the broody bred out of them. Eg- White leghorns Isa browns and 3 Langshan hens that were last years show birds. I do have 2 Lavender Blue Pure Bred Araucana hens which are supposed to go broody easily but they are still very new and have only just started laying so they wont feel comfortable going broody anytime soon. get yourself some Pekins! Notorious for going broody.... although my older pekin hasn't shown any interest in sitting on eggs.

I was quite shocked when I went to pick up the bag! although I did know that they were going in there to lay on the odd occasion. Poor hen.... I can't imagine how shocked she was when the earth started moving from under her!

Every egg I have collected now is accounted for. None left waiting for an incubator or a hen to pop under. I have 70 hatching eggs on the way though (in the post).

I have a pip in my incubator.... I think I counted the days wrong as was hoping for them to hatch a day early.

they will be 70 modern game bantam eggs! All for my new incubator that holds 100! I'm pretty excited about it all. Will be my first year hatching a large number of chicks.

That's a huge amount of fertile eggs, good luck with them all, your going to have a load of roosters, are you planning on selling them all of and keeping a few???

Just had a hen go broody. Couldn't resist popping some eggs under her even though I have some in the bator.


Wish I had room for 70 eggs. Oh well I'll just have to hatch more than one time.

good to have you one this thread welcome. Good luck with your eggs, what breed are they. I wasn't going to get anymore chickens this season but just couldn't resist not getting some fertile eggs either for my broody.

Well I actually have my bator running with chicks due to hatch sunday/monday. But when she went broody I popped some more under her cause I had two night the temps dipped quite low and I didn't realize so >>>> Chicken Math >>>>> I through some of my own mutts under there a few from my lavender americauna and a couple from my meat bird pen. This one is a new momma so I don't know if she ride it out. But I love the idea of not having to brood her chicks and not worry about temp and humidity. She went broody near the end of summer but I broke her easy by taking all the eggs. Hopefully with eggs she'll stay.

Hey, can I join? Put some OEs under my broody (who refused to break) on October 23rd, I put 9 under her, at least 4 of those had been soaking in water, so I marked them and am curious if they'll hatch. I felt like 9 was too many for her to keep warm, but lucky me, her bestie, a hatchmate Silkie was soon brooding next to her. So I divided the eggs ans am letting them both sit.

My guess is, it's a tad bit warmer in Australia right now.

Is anyone candling? I haven't especially since I don't believe I'll be able to see through the green egg, also because it's been in the 30s and I don't want to chill the eggs.
