Setting first eggs tomorrow - 3/23

I have 18 black astrolopes, 13 americanas, and a bunch of quail eggs in the incubater right now. The astrolopes were started on the 16 of march and the americanas on the 21. I have had a pretty good success rate with hatching my chicken eggs but for the quail, veeerryy delicate! I will post pics as the chicks hatch if y'all are interested and good luck for whoever is doing this for the first time!!

I've heard that quail were more delicate! lol That's what I've been hatching for the past few months. If I have a decent success rate with quail, maybe I'll have a really good success rate with chickens? :p maybe.

Is this your first time hatching chickens gingerly?
Yep! I have 3 incubators running. I guess I'm addicted. One is hatching out bobwhites, the second has chicks that are due Saturday, and I just set a batch of shipped chicken eggs on 3/22. I feel pretty confident about it though. Out of the 25 due Saturday, every single one of them are developing. They are just a barnyard mix from my father-in-law, but they are coming along nicely. So excited to see my first baby chicks!

Just candled two eggs, the first didn't have anything and the second had very clear veining!!

I'll probably do more later tonight. This is Day 3 for me.

The humidity is really stressing me out. I calibrated my extra hygrometer, which I thought was running high, and it actually seems to be only one point too high, so I've had the eggs at much higher humidity than I intended. When I realized that I put foil over half the through and now it's down about where I want... I think. But I don't even know what I'm aiming for at this point! It's so confusing. Someone in another thread suggested I get some little Rubbermaid things and cut holes in the lids and fill them with filtered water. He said that's what he does in his Genesis and he's great, very knowledgeable. So I think I'll try that and then try and forget about it except to refill them and up it at lock-down.

I have to wonder if the humidity is really all that important since people keep it at such different levels but end up with similar results...I'm going to stick with 30% and hoping to bump it up to 60% at lockdown...which is the 9th...seems so long to wait...

As for the humidity you are right, it doesn't really make a difference as long as its somewhere close to where its supposed to be. But I wouldn't stress yourself over it! Lol
