Setting my first ever eggs on Aug 27, is anyone else?

Okay the long overdue pics of the newest FAB 4. lol

The light NN, she has rythm

The little araucana w/ spunk

The dark NN, he is very naked! ( maybe even scaleless we'll see)

And last but certainly not least the first to hatch and bully of the group, the houdan girl.

So that is my first ever hatch. Small I know, but good things always come in small packages! lol

So cute. How many chicks hatched? Today is day 23 for me and I got 70+ chicks (too tired to count, maybe 72) I open up all the eggs that not pipped and most of them are fully developed but died in shell. I wonder why they died? Still 1 pipped but not hatched in the hatcher. There are about 10 +/- that can't stand on their feet. They are over 1 day old. I think they have legs deformed. They can only move the upper part of their legs. I think they will die if they cannot walk. They can't eat nor drink.

Oh over a day and still can't walk, are their legs splayed???? Yes, I think they should be walking by this point. I had 4 to hatch.

Those are awsome especially that dark Nn makes me want some myself lol those got to be somewhat rare
I don't think they are showable, but that is okay I don't show. Actually the scaleless gene if they carry it is much more rare then the melonic skin (which is on the rare side)

Wow that's a lot of chicks..sorry to hear that some can't walk, I think the fully developed ones that died probably got shrink wrapped that's what I think might of hopped to two of mine,I think if the heat fluctuates it causes malformation in legs and other areas of chicks...did you have any temp drops while incubating

Oh well they are special in their own way that's for sure, are they pure bred, the whole dark skin fascinates me
Yes they are pure bred. If both parents carry a copy of the scaleless gene there is a chance the offspring can be hatched completely naked, and if they carry the scaleless gene they have less feathering then just carrying the NN gene so that is the reason for the melonic skin, to protect them from sun damage. These are from a breeding program at the university of Arkansas.

Yes, their legs splayed. I put news paper for the floor, maybe it's too slippery.
You can fix splayed legs w/ a bandaid splint, and yes, you shouldn't use newspaper it is to slippery and will cause that problem. Look up the splinting it is pretty easy from what I have seen, never had to do it myself, and change your bedding as quickly as possible.
