Setting some eggs 5-13-15. Looking for some folks to hatch a long with me.

Morning Everyone, I candled my eggs and I have 7 developing nicely   2 clear which I discarded and 6 of which I,m unsure about, I,m going to candle again at day 14.Hope everyone is having good results so far

So cool, white duck eggs are so amazing to candle, you can just about see everything!

My purple peafowl eggs came today and they look great! They sent an extra which was very generous. The air cells are so small they don't even look detached so I am excited. I am just going to see how far I can drag this hatch a long out : )

I started setting some today, does that count? Day 21 will be 6/4.

Our first cycle of ALL our own eggs! We have:

4 Swedish Flower Hen
7 Hedemora
1 Isbar (if it hatches it will be splash)
13 bantam double-laced silver Barnevelders

Husband's birthday was tonight and we had a small crowd and a youngster so we decided to do this batch's first candling. My husband said not to count my chickens before they hatch so I told him this is a preliminary!

Day 9:

4 Swedish Flower Hen: Only 1 we clearly saw an embryo. The rooster wasn't with her too much and he had bumblefoot so wasn't able to "hang on" great. Plus she was acting half-broody (just the attitude part, not the setting) and he didn't want to make too many moves
7 Hedemora: 6 definite embryos and one "not likely".
1 Isbar (if it hatches it will be splash): It was alive!
13 bantam double-laced silver Barnevelders: All 13 were viable!

So roughly 20/25 or 21/25 so far. We're psyched!

Day 6 and decided to candle this morning to see how the air sacs are. They are nicely stable. 3 of the 4 Brabanter eggs have veining, 4th is iffy. The shells of the Dominique eggs are too dark to see veining, but they are definitley NOT clear or cloudy. I will check again monday night.

Well, I set 41 eggs today. Average weight is 58g; smallest is 33g and largest is 68g. Oldest egg is 7 days since being laid. I have no idea about fertility rate. My roo has had to try and service 24 hens this time. Last batch had 5/41 that were not fertile, and at that time he only had to service 12 hens. I've numbered all the eggs on their round end, and they each have a corresponding line in my spreadsheet with their lay date and weight. Expected hatch day is 6/13. I've set the bator to 100F and 50% humidity for now.

I completed a hatch last weekend and one little one had something stuck to its belly. I tried to remove it but it was stuck on like a scab so I left it.



Its still there. Thoughts?

A friend was over so we did a fastfast candling of two eggs to show him. The Hedemora egg we thought was questionable tonight had a bouncing embryo.

Ok well tonight started my Day 10! I had to pull two chicken eggs and one duck egg (the one that had the crack). I'm so torn. It looks like he stopped developing today. He had a bill and limbs it looked like a blood ring and there was no movement in the eGg. there wasn't any movement when I opened the ehg either so I feel like I made the right call but I'm still 1/2 way scared I killed him...... if he'd been alive he would have still mo ed when I opened the egg right?

I am so worried about this happening to me! If the egg doesn't smell, I leave it till around day 15. But, I'd be more nervous with a cracked egg. I have my first cracked egg with wax on it in the incubator now. My first candling is tomorrow night, I'm dying to know if it's developing. I'm sorry you lost the duck egg. I don't know if it would still move once the membrane is broke.
