Setting Today (03-02-2012)

I think my brown egg quit around day 6 or 7. The white egg has an embryo. Pretty easy to see it moving around in there. It's amazing! Anyway... guess the brown one goes in the trash. No air sac or anything in it. White egg has air sac developing. Kinda bummed about the dead egg but really excited about the live egg!

I never put any eggs int he trash till I am very sure that is is dead. I have a few green ones that I am not sure of and two that I think are about to hatch. about 2/3 of the egg is dark but the air sac is still small. I have no idea what is going on with them

I candled my 2nd setting from the 7th. Only 6 of the 13 shipped eggs are developing and just about all of them have unattached air cells. I hope they hatch alright. My 3 eggs from my Mille/Calico bantam Cochins are all duds. I don't think my boy is doing his job. I will have to trim their butts this week sometime just to make sure. I swear I am seeing the bullseye, though.

Looks like all of my other eggs are still developing, so 28 viable eggs! Two of the Ameraucana eggs I am not sure about though. They are form my own girls and I am just going to leave them in there until I know for sure... ie; hatch day, lol!

I have room for 13 more eggs again..... Hmmmm.

So how long should I wait? It has a darker spot that moves when I rotate the egg but what looks like a blood ring at the bigger end where the airsac should be. It doesn't stink but I don't need an exploding egg. Eeewwww.

it will stink before it explodes. i too never throw away an egg unless there's no doubt whatsoever. if i'm candling on day 10 and i see blobs but no activity, i place that egg in a "doubful egg" row in the incubator. then when i check again at lockdown, if it still looks the same, then i chunk it. when i candled at day 10 a couple days ago i found 2 eggs with no growth at all so i had no doubt about them. i mean the light shone right through them and the egg had no growths at all in it. so out they went, gently in the trash. i don't like to crack them open for some reason.

I'll join too! I set my eggs on March 2nd as well! I don't know how I didn't see this until now

Thanks! I set 24 Welsummers and 6 EEs, 5 were bad or infertile. I am having some problems though, my eggs' air cells look so wrong. I posted this in the main forum, but haven't gotten many responses yet.

This is what my air cells look like, most looked like this when I got them in the mail. The are all uneven and large. I have them all upright now. The chicks are bouncing around in there. Do you think they will make it or is there a good probability that they won't?

Thank you so much!

I noticed mine looked like that in the last hatch. I don't know if they ever developed to be honest with you. They were Ameraucana eggs and they were to dark and I couldn't see anything but the air cell. I won't lie, out of 30 eggs, only 6 hatched and 2 died. I did have temp issues (as always on the first 3 days with this incubator), but my air cells were the same shape as yours. I just can't help you with why they are that way or if they will hatch. Sorry.

I kind of figured they wouldn't do very well. This is my first hatch too

Maybe I will get lucky and get some to hatch.

Thank you for replying I really appreciate it!

i've had irregular air cells in the past and they did just fine. they could be large cuz your humidity may need to be a bit higher. only time will tell huh? i'm hoping for the best for you! oh, and i've told everyone here that i'm hatching for a friend, and then when i'm done hatching for him he's gonna give me some eggs that i can hatch for myself? well....i talked to him this morning to let him know that he has 26 out of 28 doing great and he said i could keep all that i wanted out of THIS hatch! and that i can hatch some for him later! yay! these are MY babies now!!! woohoo! i'm so excited!!!
