Setting Today (03-02-2012)

I kept my incubator around 97 the first 4 days. It's been between 98-100 since. I was hoping the cooler temps would leave me with more girls, too. I am tired of 1-2 girls out of 12-15 eggs.

ETA: Maybe that's why I have 34 'dead' eggs compared to 12 live eggs.

my chickens must have loved me as i usually ended up with 90% females from my hatches. and that's setting 500 at a time

Lucky you, I ended up with all boys my last hatch of 12.

wow!!! please don't tell me that! lol! poor roosters though. but i just can't have any where i live. and even if i lived in the country, most of them would be dinner anyway. but still....poor roosters. my heart goes out to them. but i suppose so does my fork....lol.

Want to hatch mine for me?
Out of the last... Well, all my hatches (started in October), I have 7 girls out of 41 chicks. My hatch rates have been low, too. I'm averaging about 25% hatch rate in the incubator. 83% under my broodies... If they'd ever decide to go broody, I'd be thrilled, btw!

i didn't know temperature had to do with sex of the chickens. lol. I wonder if that works for humans too. lol
i go into lockdown tomorrow 03-20-2012 @ 8:30pm. eeek. very excited
i'm thinking about spreading the eggs apart so that if one hatches it doesn't stampede the others. Is this a good idea?
