Setting tomorrow tonight (I think)

Why not? Lol come on in the waters fine lol.

Sorry I havnt been on much guys, school just started so its a little crazy. Lol. My eggs may or may not come tomarrow but I sure hope they do! Keep you fingers crossed that they are not beat up and cracked. If they dont come tomarrow they should come sometime this week. I want them to come cuz the earlier they come the closer to hatch date they get! If they come before my ducklings then they wont be to much younger than them only like 3 weeks. Omg I will have ducklings for a while! This is soooo awesome happy hatches to all and to all a good night!

Welcome Rippy! If you have any questions, at least one of us should have the answer

Good luck!
Anarchy - I have been trying to go in and see the Polish guysa few times a day (I'm so worried they're gonna have a heart attack) and they freak out every time I move. I can barely feed them. They are so flighty and half blind from their top hats so I can't even touch the guys. They go flying and beating at anything in their way in order to get away from me. Very frustrating. And it's taking a LOT of attention away from my own chickens, which I don't like at all.

I did a quick candle on day 5 and found 8 out of 16 with good veins. One I missed after candling and was left out overnight

I will be doing a thorough candle tonight, it is day 7.

that #16 is OK!

Ok here are my eggies, there are more in the tray underneath...

I do have some questions... when do you candle and what are you looking for exactly? air sac, veins, movement?
Do you toss them right then or segregate them and check again in a few days?

By the way my eggs are EEs, Olive Eggers, Lavender Split Ameraucans, NH, Blue Barred Rocks and mutts (probably more than I know cuz the NH were hanging with a Yokahoma roo)

Do any of you sanitize your eggs? How? I lightly cleaned some with oxine AH. I sprayed it on the dirty ones and dabbed as much dirt off as I could. I heard that would keep bacteria down anybody use it? I only did that on my eggs and the NH so about 1/3.

I set all my eggs, since I didn't know what to look for this early. I will candle when y'all tell me it is a good time. I did check for cracks and all was good... no cracks.

DMRippy

I candle as I put them in, then at day 7, day 14, and then at lockdown. I look for cracks upon setting them, veins and air cell at day 7, day 14 I look for chick, movement, and at the size of the air cell, I toss any at this point that are clear but if I am still unsure I leave them until lockdown.
I do not wash my eggs I just wipe them with a paper towel if dirty.
I hope this helps you

Well at the same time, you can't forget your own. Its a shame they can't calm down. But if it was that bad, and sounds like it was. There may be no fixing it. Unless you built a seperate area and shelter for them to stay away from everyone else. But at the same time, that is no good for anyone.

My thoughts exactly

And I don't have the means to provided completely seperate living quarters for them. Right now, I have them locked up in the coop and my other 2 guys are roaming around the run. They aren't complaining or cold but I just feel bad that they can't get in. I will always choose my own over the "rescues" unfortunately.
DMRippy - I candle mine at days 5, 10 and 18 (at lockdown). At day 5, they were all growing good. Sometimes with darker shells, it's hard to look for veins (unless you have an awesome candler) so I usually just look for yolk or a solid mass. Yolk after day 5 is obviously just yolk and not a baby. The solid mass is usually a good indicator (especially for us newbies) that there is something growing inside

At the most, I'll run my eggs under warm water and just wipe em with my hands (a natural exfoliant) but I don't think it's necessary unless they are dirty. Happy candling! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I picked up a flashlight that is 150 lumens hoping to see through the 2 marans eggs. I did see a small air sack

so maybe it will work

I will keep you posted.
