Quote: I love my Wyandottes! I watch them and the feather colors everyday. They are such robust chicks. My silkies are doing well too. I just sold three of my silkies, and 6 of my Wyandottes chicks this morning.

Thanks! I pulled the eggs shells out and that helped a lot! I now have 13, 1 zipped, and working hard to get out, another one starting to zip and 2 pipped....it has been quite a hatch - exceeded my expectations and is a bit overwhelming to have so many!!! They are beautiful and I will take pics when they are in the brooder! I am going to wait until this evening and give the few eggs remaining some time to hatch before I sneak the others out. I will then let the unhatched eggs stay as long as I see there is movement! That is an awesome hatch. Congrats!! I usually take the babies out quickly when they are half dry so they don't disturb all the remaining eggs, rolling them around all over the place. Into a warm brooder to finish drying off and they will be fine. Can't wait to see pics!! We want PICS!!! LOL!!![]()
Gallina, the whole process is amazing! My kids are no longer startled by my squealing and cheering! They are teenagers, so ignoring is what they do best! I do find however that they hatch much faster if you don't watch themI hope to get to actually see some come out of their shells this time! I AM ready! I've never seen Wyandottes in person... Can't wait for them to pip, unzip, and come out
Snow, tooooooo much snow! There was some drifting and blowing - so hard to be precise but it was up to my knees when I went out to help shovel out the car. So I'd guess 16 inches. Today is beautifully sunny, I hope the snow goes away soon.
Well, if you ever have too much citrus, by all means send some up! Maybe I could send you a lovely rooster![]()
Well, last egg hatched this morning...18 for 18 ! Amazing! I am a bit overwhelmed but very excited! All look great but one with a leg going to the side. It has been like that since hatch. I will start it on vitamins and see what info I can find. Truely crazy and fun! Beautiful babies!
How very very exciting! I am looking forward to pictures!!
You might want to check that knee and see if it is a slipped tendon. If it is not caught early it will not be able to stay in place. Vet Wrap works if that is what it is. You sort of have to extend the leg and *cast* the leg with the tendon in place.
Please tell us what you did to get such a good hatch..what incubator did you use..humidity and temps. Lock down procedures. Did you check weights or air cell development.
Quote: The leg that is extended.. or to the side..check the knee. If it is a tendon the tendon will be on the side of the leg, not over the knee cap.
Hold the chick in one hand and slowly extend the leg with the other hand. Try to get the leg in the correct position. Wrap it firmly in the correct position.
