Several hens with progressive paralysis.-Help

We have had several hens die and have more that are sick. They start out droopy, then have trouble with balance, then progress to not able to use their legs. We have been battling with this for two months. Nothing we do helps. We have the hens isolated from the rest of the flock. Help

Sounds like it's time to get a definate answer. What state are you in please? Those here on the board can point you to where to go for help on finding out what is wrong.

Get yourself to a pharmacy and ask for Cranassure GEL caps- not powdered format- GEL as in liquid- made from cranberry seed oil.

Just keep tucking one gel cap down the gullet once a day -an almond or two- a few grapes for water- every day for nine -15 days.

You may be able to turn them around.

Please keep us updated. There are many on the board who are having similar problems (myself included!!) I am going to contact the online vet as a last resort before I have her put down. We only have one, and it has been going on for 5 weeks so I don't think we are in the same situation but any and all info helps. I am sorry you are going through this. It really is terrible.

Sorry, I'm brain dead tonight. I have been seeing the cranberry thing here and there. Resolution can you explain what condition one would be treating and how the cranberry works? Grapes for water and NOTHING else? I am not comfortable sticking anything down her gullet. Any other form of administration? I have cranberry tablets for UTIs, is this something I could grind up or nothing at all the same. thanks.

I have been reading about New Castle but, it doesn't quite match. Their necks get weak and then they stop eating. My favorite little hen has it and it is so frustratiing not to be able to help her.

Just off the top it sounds like some sort of toxin. Botulism from bad food is the most common.

We live in Texas. It only is affecting the hens, we changed their food. Age ranges from 6wks to 2 years. The only thing they have in common is that they are all hens.
