Severe Case of Worms

Help - I think one of our six hens is dying. I dusted her vent and gave a small dose of antibiotics. What can I do quickly to save her life? All I read suggests I dust the coop! Looks a lot like rice in her poop, and she has diarrhea. Also, should I order a product that might take a few days, and which one is best:

Fenbendazole is effective against most worms, Tape worms will require other medications. The brand name Safeguard contains Fenbendazole. Comes in liquid and paste. .2 mls per pound of body weight. Dosed orally under the tongue once a day for 3 to 5 days. (Capillary worms require a 5 day treatment.) Repeat these dosages in 10 days to kill unhatched eggs and more hatched worms. There is a 14 day meat and egg withdrawal period for this product.

Zimectrin Gold is effective against Tape Worms. Dose .3 ml per 5 pounds of bird. Repeat in 10 days.

Equimax is also effective to kill Tape Worms. Dose .16 ml per 5 pounds of bird. Repeat in 10 days.

Valbazen (Albendazole) is a broad spectrum wormer and takes care of nearly all worms, eggs and Tapeworms. .2 mls per pound of body weight dosed orally under the tongue once a day for 3 to 5 days. Repeat in 10 days. There is a 14 day meat and egg withdrawal period for this product.

If it looks like rice, I’m pretty sure it’s tapes.

A pic of the poo would be helpful but sounds like you need to hurry and order some medicine.

What looks like rice in the poo is usually tapeworm segments. Sometimes seeds they eat can resemble those. You'll need Equimax or Zimecterin Gold for tapeworms.

What antibiotic did you give and why?

Why do you think you need to dust the coop? Have you seen bugs there or something?

Sounds like you have a multitude of things going on.

Some green diarrhea - could be tapeworm - poop and vent were full of rice like worms - no pic, killed them all and dusted with DE. Will try ACV - she’s very lethargic. I am separating her from the rest of the other birds. Yes there are worms in the coop my compost piles are in there — help pls

I gave the Antibiotic thinking I need something to kill off what is inside

ACV will do nothing for worms and I don't think DE is going to help what you got. You need Sevin Dust or Permethrin if you see bugs in your coop or on your bird.

It kinda sounds like you are describing Fly Strike and what you saw are maggots not tapeworms.

Look up tapeworm eggs and fly strike and tell us which one you think you have.

It must be flystrike. Ugh. She is completely covered in DE, sleeping peacefully in a box in the garden, covered by plants. I doubt she will awaken. If she does, she'll find nasturtium, ACV water, and mealworms. Do you recommend I give her a warm bath?

You are correct. Everything I've read is spot on -- there is a vast area under her vent that is raw as though the maggots have eater her. I cleared out every one I could find with my shameless mama nature, and noticed that she could barely stand up. It seems to be a very severe case that has affected her insides too. I don't have any Sevin dust...and Covid makes it difficult to obtain supplies. Any other suggestions, please? Endless gratitude -- this is a horrific story.
