Severe dog attack! Please help

That's terrible! Looks like she is getting extremely well taken care of though.
Don't worry though! We had a fox attack our chickens during the night when we left the door open.
Two went missing and the other two we found down a creek near our house a day later.
One was fine but the other had a broken neck. We thought she was going to die but
we fed her water and watery mushed up grain/easy to eat food every 2 hours during the day for about 4-5 weeks.
It was extremely lucky we found her when we did! Chickens are pretty tough and they recover quite
well. Birds are used to having to recover from things - they need to keep their status out in the wild which
is why you don't find out about illnesses until it's pretty late with chickens or birds. If they were in
the wild they need to look strong and healthy so they aren't vulnerable - other birds can be big
bullies! Keep hope! You are taking wonderful care of her.

Prayers to you and your girl.

I think you are doing a great job on caring for her and the advice is excellent. The use of a tshirt to cover her is an awesome idea. I'll have to pick up some infant or small child shirts at yard sales for this type of an emergency for my girls.

Just to be on the safe side you may want to get a tube feeding kit to help her if not drinking or eating like she should. I found mine as a lamb tube feeding kit at the feed store. Here is a link.

Hoping your pretty girl recovers fully. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help!
I'm giving her clindamycin 25 mg twice a day we just started her on it this morning, it smells awful ( like pure alcohol ) so instead of trying to syringe it into her mouth I mixed it with her daily boiled egg... She ate a good bit of it, but I think the taste is bothering her... Any tips on how to get this into her??
I'm going to give her the second dose tonight and may try mixing it with mealworms and yogurt??? I also read that it can burn her esophagus if squirted directly in her mouth??? And to give water after to avoid this... But I'm barely getting water into her now, (dripping on her beak) and I can't hold her down as her whole side is badly wounded. Any tips?????

Thank you so much I truly appreciate everyone's help.

Ten chicks

Yes she is eating, but not very keen on drinking... She drank a sip today ( I carried her outside to her favorite drinking bowl to see if the habit of drinking in that area would trigger her to drink. Worked briefly)
She isn't wanting to drink much tho.
But she's still eating. She didn't lay yesterday or today, so I'm not sure what that means. She laid the day it happened and the next day, but not yesterday or today.
Will grapes hydrate her??
What if I soak them in electrolyte water before giving them to her?

If she's eating okay, soak pieces of bread in water. She will eat them and get the water, too. You can float kernels of corn (real corn, not scratch) in water. She will go for the corn and get some of the water that way. Scramble an egg and add water to it in a bowl.

Also, if you put her medicine on a couple of pieces of bread and put that in the back of her mouth, she will swallow. Don't mix it with a lot of food - you can't control the dosage that way.

Keep up the good work!

She is still going strong, the wounds are changing, I removed some of the necrotic tissue but there is still a bit left....
It seems like they are drying out?
I'm trying to keep them moist with medicine.
I think her leg is weeping a bit as well.
She's not given me any fuss about taking her medicine. I'm so proud of her. My husband has quite a different opinion on the strength, love, and loyalty of a pet chicken. He's grown quite find if her as well.
However, her poop seems a bit runny today.. Is this due to the injury?
I'm giving her yogurt and grapes everyday as well as a whole egg and raw chopped garlic.
She gets her regular crumbles as well.
She's also drinking on her own, bit not quite as much as is like... Hoping the grapes will help with that.
Will post pics of her wound in a few as I'm about to clean it.

Thank you all for all your help, it has been sincerely appreciated and YOU ALL got us thru this and are saving her. Thank you.
