I have a crippled silkie..i do not want to just put her down. She was just over 2 weeks old when I got her... 2 weeks later her leg was noticeably not right... she had a slipped achilles tendon in one leg. I attempted all of the suggested fixes I found on the internet and as soon as the "fix" was removed the tendon would slip and the leg went off to the side.

So here are my ideas... either:
1. Create a sling of some sort so she's can kinda glide through her coop... (she is currently housed in a large faret/guinea pig cage. With the mail I purchased at the same time....

Or 2. Amputate

She NEVER stands up... she almost rolls to get to the food and water... her wings spread out...the bottom of her is always discolored and have poop stuck to her feathers. .i bathe her every couple of days....that leg gets caught up in the cage bars..the feed jar and water jar...she NEVER ever makes My noise insinuating that it hurts.... when I pick her up...i leg her on her back and stretch that leg out... she still doesn't act like it hurts her...i can actually feel the tendon...i can roll it kinda til it's back in it's place...the second I let go it it goes right back like it was.

Please offer suggestions....

I just got a 1 or 2 day old golden red pheasant chick that is very uniquely crippled. It does not have splay leg, which I've treated (even severe cases) before. The chick walks (barely) on its hock joints with its shanks and feet upward. Imagine a person walking on their knees with their feet ticking up. Sometimes the chick's feet get caught behind the wings. It struggles to move and sit properly. The back of its hock joints are sore. I cannot figure out the best way to splint or brace the bird so that it uses its feet to walk and keeps them under its body. This issue occurs in both legs. Frequently it sits with both feet caught behind its wings. Help.View attachment 1036415 View attachment 1036414
How did you ever make out with your uniquely crippled chick? I just hatched one very similar to this and looking for suggestions

I have seen it but I have never had one that walks like that. I have had a few with a good leg and a leg bent out to the side or back and raised them. I have seen people on here "splint" legs and make harnesses to hold them up so they can eat/drink, but I do not know how it turned out.
Hi @PD-Riverman! I am really curious about you raising some chicks with a leg bent to the side. I’ve got one like this and splinting or slinging has not worked. I need to either put it down or decide to let it try growing however it does, because I feel I’m causing more harm than good at this point. It’s 2 weeks old. It almost looks like the bone may pop through the skin is my only holdup… do you have any experience with this, and do you just let them all grow as they will and cull only if they stop eating and drinking? Or how do you decide? (This is my first chick like this). Thank you so much for any advice you can offer.
