The following photos are of a friend's two five week old Easter Eggers (sold as americaunas of course!). As you can see, one is significantly smaller and underdeveloped (looks to be only maybe 1-2 weeks old). It's activity level is pretty normal, doesn't seem to be ailing, but we noticed today that it seems to have a bit of clear fluid that it spits up or "bubbles" out of it's beak. Beak has a little "hook" at the end. Seems to be eating and is not being picked on by the other 6 chicks that were purchased at the same time. In fact I saw it sleeping on another's back while I was there! Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong with it...syndromes, genetic flaw...etc? Thanks. Vickery

It's same age peer.

Together...

Leg coloring looks yellow & not slate like it's sibling? In the first pic, there's something different about it's left foot or is that poop stuck on it? There really is a sizable difference as well as slow development. I have not clue but you could also post in the Emergencies, Disease, Injuries & Cures forum, someone there may know what's going on.

The beak may be holding it back. If you have a set of dog nail trimmers use them and trim the hook off the beak. This may help. The chick may not be able to eat enough with the hook. If it starts to eat it should pick up growth rapidly after that hopefully.

It's actually the person's silver ring you are seeing at it's foot. Feet look fine from what I can tell. It was around well. No issues there. Thanks for your input. Vickery

Dang, these old eyes just not what they use to be....Now I see the ring, ha ha. Thank you
I keep waiting to see what others have to say about the growth difference, I'm curious.

I don't know what is wrong with the chick but putting some nutri drench vitamins in it's water couldn't hurt.
