Sevin Dust on your chickens?

I can't really see how dusting your chickens with a pesticide could be "okay". I am an organic gardener, and I got my own chickens so I wouldn't have to worry about buying eggs that were produced "unethically" or with antibiotics etc. There are ways of treating mites and lice without using pesticides. If you think sevin is safe you should google it. If you are dusting chickens with it, of course it will be absorbed dermally. That to me means it would therefore transfer to the eggs. In humans most pesticide damage is "cumulative". That means of course you won't see any damage the first few times you use it. But it "accumulates" in your organs. Sevin is "highly toxic" to bees and aquatic invertebrates. If you are using and it rains or you water down your chicken area there is going to be run-off. which could lead to ground water contaminiation. I have really learned a LOT on this website but this is not something that I would use or promote. AND I did GOOGLE and find some natural ways to deal with these pests. Please take a minute to do that yourself.

sevin dust is safe to put on vegetables that are to be used for human consumption. it is no different than poultry dust which can also be used in the garden. we used to use it on our dogs but frontline works great and is easier to apply

Sevin is dangerous stuff, I believe it is being taken off the market for this reason. It has been misrepresented.

For treating lice and mites, instead dust with wood ashes. I've done this twice now and it was highly effective. Most birds took one treatment, some took two. Completely douse the birds, especially their butts, but avoid they're heads. Very low toxicity.

I have never seen any lice or mites on my birds. we put wood ashes where they can dust themselves. I used to mix de with the ash but believe this to be dangerous. we rub burnt motor oil on their legs and paint their roosts with it once a year. we only worm once a year in june. 5% sevin dust and poultry dust are good products that work if you need them. 10% sevin was too much

Just realize that it is one of the things that is killing our honey bees.

There is a village in China that the whole community hand pollinates every single crop, tree, bush and plant. They have no bees anymore, because they wiped them out with the pesticides they had been using on their crops.

So many people don't realize how serious the situation is. We have 7 hives that we raise naturally no pesticides at all.

For anyone even THINKING about using Sevin...all you have to do is look up the information on the label. It clearly states that it is "toxic to bees, and other beneficial non-target insects". It doesn't just disappear into thin air after you use it. If it rains or you wash anything down, the Sevin is going to be carried away downstream. I don't know about where you all live, but where I am the water from the gutters goes into our river. That's where we get the water we all drink, bathe in, and water our yards with.

We use Sevin as needed around the coop and on the birds...even added an entire can mixed in with the dust bath, which also contains de, woodash, and dirt. So for anyone even THINKING about using it, it works and it's safe for the birds.
