Sevin dust

Weather it be Sevin5 or DE or whatever, what is the best way to apply it. Can it be sprinkled in their dusting spots only or on them directly. What is your best practice.

I have poultry ticks!! Have had to disassemble the entire coop, power wash it spray it down with Orange Guard spray, let it dry, power wash again, restaurate all wood surfaces with Orange Guard My point?? If you haven't seen this ; no matter what, you want to save your hens..so use anything that is considered safe for them. I am going to spread DE and sevin throughout my infected coups..yep more than one!! My girls have been oddly moulting, but once we discovered the tics much has happened with the health of our chickens. We have treated the hens with poultry protect spray, took them out of their home, they are growing feathers and act less lethargic. Our temps have exceeded 115 dry miserable heat! The hens are not laying much, lost 5 to heat on 118+ days, lost one to hawk!! Now tics!! I just finished building our third coop and so far it is pristine and tic free...I will treat that coop and those hens as a preventative measure I am using Sevin and DE on the sandy floor so they dust bathe and get the Sevin on them to protect them. If you have not heard of poultry tics read here! My daughter discovered that word "tic" and came to BYC and Lordy are we infested!! The cure is very cumbersome, but worth it (took me 6 months to build each coop now we have to disassemble one). So sevin is my choice preventative part of my help for poultry tic infested chicken coops.

Well to be completely fair ( or at least make a modest attempt) the term NATURAL is equally irritating to me. Plutonium is natural, so is asphalt. Short of needing to hot mop my roof I am fairly sure I am not going to use it on my chickens cause it is natural.

As for Sevin, I choose not to, but my mother has for years and years. She is one of those biology, chemical superfreaks and has assured me it is safe. My reasons are more personal for not using it and a matter of hypocrisy. I have not take drugs (actually will not) of the synthetic type for years due to health reasons. I simply find it hypocritical to give the animals under my care synthetic drug when I will not take them my self. I have heard many good things about the results with Sevin though.

FWIW, just good debate, no harm no foul. I try not to interpret emotion or hard feelings from written text. Good people around here who just want to help, and I give all the benefit of the doubt. Or at least I try too...

I'm a bit surprised. Where can I go get some free asphalt since it is natural. I was under the assumption people made it in big trucks, and where do you get non-synthetic medicine. Do you use herbs that you grow instead. I thought natural meant it occurs in nature on it's own. I also thought plutonium had to be separated from something else and it was not found in true form in nature either. Please, facts only in response to this. I truly just want to know.

I use to use 7 Dust (on the chicken and in the bedding) and never had an issue, but after doing some research on how bad the pesticide is, i would rather not take my chances.
It says on the back that it should not be used on animals, why do you think that is?
In the long run, i do not doubt it can cause some serious issues.
If its not safe for us, i don't know why it would be ok to use on them.

Now, I use a dust specifically for poultry and it works just as good AND it is safe and made for animals.

This is just my opinion.
Like i said, i never SAW any side effects...but i also don't want to wait around till something does finally happen
Hi there:) What is it that you use on your flock?

:welcome :frow I have tried a lot of different things. I use permethrin. It works. If you have a TSC they carry the permethrin dust, the premixed spray bottles and the concentrate. Good luck...
