Sewing machine v.s Sewing machine

I haven't done a ton of sewing but i bought a brother sewing machine about 7years ago. It doesnt keep tension worth a crap. My next sewing machine will be all steel parts and be a Singer or a White. MY mom has an all steel white and never had a problem with it.

I have a singer 15-91.it was electric, but those parts are gone. Its gear driven. I tried it with an aftermarket crank, but the bobbin keeps getting jammed.

I had a Brother sewing machine from Walmart, wore it out with 7 years of quilting. Gave it to my sister, she only dabbles, and it still works good for light duty sewing.

Bought a singer from Sears that does fancy stitches, plus 2 or 3 different alphabets - with capitol letters and small letters.

I have used it alot and only have a real problem when I try to do freehand quilting. I need to get the tension perfect and not move the fabric too fast or it will snarl the threads underneath.
I recently purchased a Juki with a deeper throat to help with the quilting. It is a much higher speed machine, but only does a straight stitch. It is perfect for quilting and so far I love it.

I have a brother and a Bernina quilting machines. By far, my brother is my most favorite! It does have some embroider features. I have the NX600. I bought it when it first came out a few years back! My Bernina is still sitting in my closet. Some day I may sell it. I used it maybe twice.

I am looking at a singer futura 400, the largest hoop for it is 6x10. I think that is good size, most of them I find is 5x7 or 4x4. So I think this is a good one. I have a singer simple and like it. I was looking a janome but it kinda pricey for what it can do and ith hoop is not that big. Thanks guys.

That machine is a BEAUT!!! I may have to look into this one! Thanks for posting it! How long have you had yours and have you had any problems with it? That is always my fear with the newer computerized ones. The problems and cost of fixing.

Oh...all the fancy new stuff is incredible. I am still using 2 very old machines...a straight stich Singer 201 (over 50 years old) and a Singer 501 with all the cams. I'm lucky to have an aging sewing maching service guy who grew up on these beasts. He keeps things running for me. I make rag quilts and the 201 goes through all those layers so nicely.

It's fun to watch the new machines being demonstrated at Joann's. They often have classes too where you actually use their machines. They basically have Viking and Singer.
