Sex link why does it matter which breed is the roo?

If you cross a Barred male with a non-barred hen all of the offspring should come out Barred...
Makes me think that the Cuckoo Marans Rooster wasn't pure for his Barring, he may have been out of a Barred/ Black cross.

Who knows? The Roo was bought (for a hefty price) in the USA as a pure Cuckoo Marans. But unless there is a DNA panel done

who knows for sure, people say all sorts of things. It came from a reputable breeder. I'm not complaining if he makes sex link olive eggers.

All of his chicks crossed with a Black Amerucana hen, the males come out with a spot on their head and the females don't have any spot. Not even a vague spot.

I've done four batches and they are all the same. The females grow up pure black and lay a olive egg. The males end up looking something like a Barred Rock Roo. (and they are delicious

)

I haven't crossed him with anything but black, so I can't say what would happen with another color.
I am not going to do anymore batches this Spring so I can't get a picture of newly hatched chicks. Maybe I will later in Summer.
My camera is broken anyway, but I am sure I could find somebody to take a picture of both sexes.
