If your Ameraucanas are true Ameraucanas and not the EE’s you get from the hatcheries, you should get red sex links with your Delawares. You probably will anyway but hatchery EE’s are mixes and you can’t always be sure with mixes. The Blue won’t show up at all on the down. It will show up on the feathers that would normally be black when they feather out.

NOT if they are Wheaten. Wheaten just cant be use for Barring sex linksks

ah its ok.. any ways any Blue/Wheaten Ameraucana rooster mated to Delaware hen WILL NOT produce chicks that can be sexed at hatched.. will they be sex linked? yes. females will be gold based wheatens and males will look Silver based wheatens.. BUT the Araucana lacks the genes found on RIR and NH that makes them Redish/Orange tone. Wheaten and Blue wheaten Ameraucana chicks look yellow just like delaware chicks making them impossible to sex at hatch..

Red Sexlinks are usually produced using RIR or New Hampshire,

not all gold wheaten based birds can be used as gold/silver color sex links. check how my naked neck buff cochin chick looks like? yeah yellow and she is gold based




you can also scratch off using "Wheaten" Old english games as sexlinks they just wont work, even if they are gold based

There's no way I can figure out the genetics so I'm relying on the generocity of you smarter chicken breeders.

I have just hatched eggs from an ee hen and a dominicker roo. The hatched out either black or yellow. Are they sex-linked?

no they are not sex linked. the EE hen is carrying one copy of dominant white.

well statistically there is a 50% chance of obtaining black or yellow chicks. meaning that of 1000 chicks hatch 500 of them will turn out to be white...but this only works on large numbers. its like Naked neck gene. out of 4 chicks that I hatched I was expecting 2 to be naked neck. but with so little number all of them could have hatch naked neck, but guess what only one of them hatch naked neck. this kind of wild numbers dont happen when you hatch 100 and up chicks. the name of that scientific law is. the law of large numbers.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_large_numbers

Thanks for the clarification over the last few posts... I understand why the Wheaten Ameracaunas won't work over the Delawares... actually, I got my Delaware chicks and Ameracauna chicks at the same time, and they looked almost exactly a like for a little while, duh!! I think I will try getting several more eggs from the Blue Copper Marans crossed over the Delaware, just to see what I get=)

well acording to the laws of genetics and if the birds you have are pure for the following genes. ER/ER(Birchen from BCM) B/-(Barring from Delawares) then you will obtain Black sexlinks
