Sex- linked Information

Has anyone ever made a blue sex link? I saw some on a British poultry website and wondered how you would come up with one.

I'm working on getting parent stock for this as we speak

It's pretty easy, any splash rooster over any barred black hen will make blue sex link hens. I'm surprised there aren't more Marans blue sex links, it would be an easy breed to find both splash and barred (cuckoo).

Quote: Alrighty then this is marvelous news.

I think that I am going to focus on breeding mostly sex links I have Delawares, New Hampshires, Dorkings, Barred Rocks and California Greys so lots of potential there.

I was planning to hatch Isbar eggs at some point so that should make getting a splash rooster that much easier! Thanks so much for this exciting info.

Actually you only need birds based on Extended Black or Birchen to produce this type of Blue Sexlinks Example would be Splash Copper Maran rooster(which if crossed to a copper maran hen would produce black chicks with cream underbelly) take this rooster and cross it to a Delaware Hen(which is columbian barred) this cross would produce Blue sexlinks, but only on the chick down coloration, as adults they will grow to look like black Sexlinks but blue in color

Aren't isbars barred? The rooster has to be non-barred for a black-type (barred) sex link to work.

I am making blue/black sex links with a blue rooster over barred hens. Sold my splash rooster today. I figured some of each color would maybe satisfy more customers. These are EE or Ameraucana project birds.
