Sex of Goslings

Interesting.. "Thank you" :) it is amazing at only one week old.. I see a difference in behavior too!! The one I think is a Male is the most friendly and forward.. Yes it is fun to guess.. Even this early!! These are the first Geese I've ever had!' They are sooo cool!!

. I'm going to step out on a limb here and call this one ( staring bravely up at me..heehee) a Male.. He shall be called "Gandalf". Love Em already!!

As someone already stated African and Chinese get knobs on the top of their bill. A mature gander gets a much larger knob than a female. What I am keeping a close eye on is Snow's knob development compared to Jas (it will be Jasmine if girl, Jasper if boy). Both started developing knobs around the same time, but Jas' knob has stopped while Snow's knob is getting more wrinkled and a tiny bit bigger. I don't know, haven't read that males knobs develop first, but if it does this might be a clue I can use to sex my younger goslings. At 6 weeks of age, I noticed the first sign of knob development in Jas and Snow. I could also be grasping at straws though.
Enjoy them and spend LOTS of time with them. Snow at 12 weeks is already showing attack signs to everyone but me, since I hand raised him. Chinese are very territorial and protective of those they imprint on. As a child i had a brown Chinese gander, that bit a boy on the butt. The boy knocked me down, sat on me and was tickling me when the gander goosed his behind!

Be sure to start giving them romaine lettuce and grass cut fine along with crushed peas and of course chick grit you want to make sure they are getting plenty of Niacin in their diets asap. to keep them from having lameness which can be very serious.. They are absolutely adorable. I love that pic.
