Sexing 4 week GL Wyandottes

I got 50 GLW pullets from Stromberg's 4 weeks ago with 3 packing peanuts. Around 5 already are developing wattles. Will these be roos? The rest are still clean throated. With 90% sexing accuracy plus the freebies I'm looking out for around 8 roos in the gang.

I've only had EEs. So no chin wattles. If I have 6 with pronounced wattles at 4 weeks of age would this be a way to identify sex?

I think it would be a good indicator of cockerels, but probably not a sure thing.

My GLW had me guessing for the longest time. She was my heaviest chick, with big, thick legs, stood up really tall, and looked like a cornish. She was VERY slow to feather in. I was sure she was my one cockerel in the bunch... now she's a gorgeous, rather large pullet who looks close to laying. She never had early wattles, though...

For rosecomb chicks, it's kind of hard to tell, but if the wattles are starting to look red and a little larger than some, and the comb is looking a little more prominent and pinkish, then it's probably a male. Sometimes it may take a little longer to tell them apart from other breeds simply because of the comb type.

I've only had GLW hens, but I'd say if you're seeing something there at only four weeks old you might have a few roos. Hard to say with this breed though.

At 5 weeks now the wattlers are doing the chest bumping act. They're destined to be 4H projects! You guys are a great help. They are a beautiful breed. I can't wait for my May eggs from them.
