I have 8 - 5 week old buff Orpington chicks still inside under a heat lamp. Sometimes they fight for a second outside and some seem to bully the others. The bully's all seem to have combs pail pink. Some have little beginnings of waddles i think. Is there a way to sex them in a week or so or even now? I separated the ones with combs today and they are louder, scratching up everything, and bullying each other also they seem to be more alert and stand higher to look around the others seem to be calm and quiet and relaxed now that there separated. I really appreciate it im new to everything. Thanks again.

This is the runt

Its hard to say at that age. I too had Buff Orps as my first chickens. Your looking for the right things. Bigger redder combs, Shorter tail feathers at first, the hens seem to get tail feathers first. And watch the way they hold themselves. If they stand up tall heads held high, in my experience its most likely a cockerel. Stands low head down, most likely a pullet. But none of it is fool proof.
