Sexing a chick by squeezing it?

One the feces are squeezed out, look inside the vent. A small bump is a male, basically flat inside is female. Sometimes it is hard ti determine if it is a bump or not. Skilled trained vent sexers are about 90% accurate. This doesn't not cause infertility for either sex.

In all honesty, I see your reasoning, but just consider all of the chicks that are vent-sexed every day by major hatcheries. People are hatching chicks from them all the time...it just doesn't seem like there's enough factual information out there to support not vent sexing?

No!!! that is not my intent at all but if you took the time to read the first ten or so post they all seemed to based on hearsay and old wives tales. I was just trying to more factual, and educate as well, not add to more old wives tales told across the backyard fence.

I have also read that vent sexing being performed on bantams can increase risk of prolapse, which is why most hatcheries won't sex them. I would think if it was being performed even on standard size fowl can increase that risk by those who are untrained to do it correctly. Most average folks would not even be able to identify the sex organ on a baby chick.

Even for feather sexing, you have to breed fast feathering to slow feathering..the result will be the opposite. So that's not always a guarantee unless you happen to have that set up in the breeding pen.
