Sexing a chick by squeezing it?

One the feces are squeezed out, look inside the vent. A small bump is a male, basically flat inside is female. Sometimes it is hard ti determine if it is a bump or not. Skilled trained vent sexers are about 90% accurate. This doesn't not cause infertility for either sex.

I was told that back in the day they used sex a chick by sqeezing that area to make it come out a little, but then they reilized it hurt there chances of haveing babys. Thats what i was told so we dont do that.

Yes this just about the right explanation, The poop gets squirted out ( just a tiny bit ) so the inside of the vent can be seen more clearly, looking for the bump, Thus helping sexing accuracy. It does not hurt the chick!!!!, It does not cause infertility!!!!!, It does not hurt egg laying!!!!. It is harmless to the chickens so you guy's dont go starting some crazy rumors. they say that at a place like Mcmurray those chinamen can sex about 20,000 a day, and that the only people employed to do this is a Chinamen, It has been passed down through the Eon's of time, they are very good at it.

In all honesty, I see your reasoning, but just consider all of the chicks that are vent-sexed every day by major hatcheries. People are hatching chicks from them all the time...it just doesn't seem like there's enough factual information out there to support not vent sexing?

People ask for opinions, im only saying what i was told, that does not mean i was trying to start a rumor. All you have to do is tell what you know NOT to criticize people for trying to help!!!

No!!! that is not my intent at all but if you took the time to read the first ten or so post they all seemed to based on hearsay and old wives tales. I was just trying to more factual, and educate as well, not add to more old wives tales told across the backyard fence.

I have also read that vent sexing being performed on bantams can increase risk of prolapse, which is why most hatcheries won't sex them. I would think if it was being performed even on standard size fowl can increase that risk by those who are untrained to do it correctly. Most average folks would not even be able to identify the sex organ on a baby chick.

Boy im glad im not the only one that herd that. I usually can tell by the feathering, if it comes out to a point its a cockerel, and if its rounded off its a pullet.

Even for feather sexing, you have to breed fast feathering to slow feathering..the result will be the opposite. So that's not always a guarantee unless you happen to have that set up in the breeding pen.
