Sexing a chick by squeezing it?

Hi, I was talking to my Grandpa who used to have 3000-4000 chickens in the 1940's or so and he said they used to sex a chick by literally squeezing the crap out of it. He doesn't remember the rest though like how to tell. I assume the looked at the crap or how it came out. Has anyone heard of this? Sorry if its kinda sick. lol. Thanks, Justin.

You'd only ruin them if you stuck your finger INTO the chick.
