Sexing a white rock

I have a white rock that looked just like the other 2 'girls' up until about a week ago and all of a sudden his comb has sprouted...

How exactly does one sex a chicken, don't you squeeze their 'rear' and look for a nub?

I'm a pretty new 'chicken' farmer...and I can't figure out how to upload the picture I have of IT
