Firstly, I have 14 Black Australorps. I gave one away thinking it was a roo this week. The BAs are now 4 weeks old and half of them are developing very red wattles. So, am I right in assuming they are boys? Do the BAs get red wattles before the combs grow and get red?

Second, I have 5 chicks that I think are Barred Rocks. They are barred anyways. They are almost 2 weeks old and four of them have larger combs than my 4 week old 'Lorps! Do they get large combs quickly? If I color sex them, I am guessing 3, maybe 4 roos. I don't quite get the feather sexing, and at 2 weeks, can I still go by that? If they are even Barred Rocks...

Here's a picture of the "Barred Rocks" and what are the red ones? I was assuming RIRs or NHs. I know the striped "chipmunk" ones are Speckled Sussex.
I know, it's not a great pic, but...

They look like barred rocks to me...
If they have yellow legs, you can bet on it.
The one dead center looks to be male.
far right probably male, the white barring looks really wide to me.
I don't know...
Its hard to tell.
If you could get some pics that are closer up showing the headspot, legs, and comb, there are some really good guessers here that could help you out.

the reds are most likely production reds or RIRs

are you sure the brown ones are sussexs? they look like brown leghorns to me

i'm not very good with sexing barred rocks, but i do know when they get older and more feathers start to come in, you can tell male from female by the shade of gray their bars are. the ones with a lighter gray are roosters, and the darker ones are females
