My DD and I have about 30 young ones at the moment- 4-5 weeks old. We are going on the theory that the pullets feather out soonest. Time will tell if that is correct. If it is correct, I have 9 cockerels and 1 pullet running around in the grass here.

with my cochins the pullets always feather up faster, a lot of the boys are sad looking because their back feathers come in so slowly. by about 4 weeks i can tell sex based on comb development, the boys will have larger combs that are noticibly more red.

Almost always by 3 weeks I can tell males from females based on comb development. Wish there was an earlier way, but I haven't found it.
