Sexing Barred Rock Chicks

Amber, the one laying in the shavings between the two buff chicks was a cockerel (the one that died, right?) The others look like pullets. Those are not large headspots, IMO. The one at the very top of the pic has a slightly larger spot, but still seems like a pullet, at least in that picture.

Cynthia, Thanks so much for the pullet conformation. I do hope they are girls. I want to cross them on my RIR roo when they are of age.
I will have to try and get some current pic of them up.

My one-week old barred rocks already look very different- this thread helped me figure out that one is male and one is female

(I'm 99% sure!)

That's Harriet at the top, and Norman at the bottom. So glad to have a BR Roo!

I know this is an old topic, but I'm looking for a little more info.

I was given some eggs and was told they were all BR's
the chicks are 9 wks old now and I'm curious.
I have 2 pure black pullets as well as 4 typical looking BR's.
The guy I got them off said any with white spots were roo's.
Glad I keept them now as I have 2 pullets out of the 4 roo's he told me I had.

Anyway what do you think about the black one's?
I have no experience with this breed

I'm still not sure of mine- she's 2 1/2 weks old or so, a lot of white on the tummy and chest, distinctive splotch on head, getting cream/white spots on side feathers. Some black on front of feet. Boy or girl? Pics are on my BYC page.

well now Im worried about my one barred rock! She has been the leader of the pack since we got them all! Feet are barely colored, larger dot on the head too...not against a roo at all, I think it would be cool but...kind wanted four hens!

Would you say these are roo's or hens? I'm thinking roo but hope not. I got 3 barred rock and3 buff orp. I would hate for all of my barred rocks to be roo's
