Sexing Barred Rocks

Pics
I only have one barred rock (approx 4-5 weeks old) & was wondering if anyone could tell me if its a hen or roo? One of my chicken keeping friends says its not even a barred rock. This is our first attempt at keeping backyard chickens so any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Are these current pictures? My barred rock was much more feathered out then yours when he was 3 weeks old.

The coloring is right for a pullet/hen. But, I too am curious if this is a current picture. At 4-5 weeks it should definitely have more feathering even if it were a roo. This looks to be a week to 2 week old chick.

Took these pics today. We've had these birds 3 full weeks & were told they were 1 wk old when we got them

Here are my Barred Rocks (and others) at 5-1/2 weeks old. Major difference from yours.

Here are my chicks at 3 weeks old...they look the same age as your chicks. I think someone lied to you...I bet your chicks were '1 DAY' old when you got them. Compare the little stick legs of these 3 week olds to the above 5-1/2 week olds...major difference! I date all of my pictures so I know exactly how old they are in each picture.

*Sigh* were I only to have read this post before purchasing a barred rock "pullet". Pretty sure mine will be crowing soon. I'm too new to post pics, but the chicken in question is my avatar.

How old is your Barred Rock? It looks more like my pullet than my cockerel. Here is my pullet at 9 weeks.

And here is my cockerel at 9 weeks.

Here they are together at 10 weeks.

Ha, meant 2 to 3 week old chick. Too tired, big ole typo. I agree though about they were likely a day old when you got them and they told you a week. Was there any feathering on them at all when you got them?

The wings were just feathering when we got them

Regardless of their actual age (which I believe is only about 3 weeks right now), you will need to wait several more weeks before you are going to be able to tell if your BR is a boy or girl. Use my pictures (since I have one boy and one girl) to compare to as they grow.
