is an the bottom of the pecking order with the 3 chicks I have. Not the smartest of the 3. But she can be sweet and loves the highest roost. Phew!!!! These are pets for me. Look forward to learning more.

Hi everyone. I know it's very young age to ask, but since I have side by side photos I figured I'd throw it out there just to see what others thought.
They are only 2-2.5 weeks old. I know from reading that the boys are lighter than the girls so I didn't know if the one on the left showing a lot of white would be leaning towards boy.
Thanks in advance.

I think it's probably a pullet, since the back feathers have barely any white on them. I had one that feathered in like that on her back. There are all sorts of variation when it comes to hatchery chicks.

The bird upfront in this pic is the same as the chick above. She had me worried for a few weeks, early on, but her comb stayed yellow until 14 weeks old.

Well that gives me hope :) I'm not going to get too worried yet because they are still so young.
And the one in the back is also a barred rock? There is quite a difference for sure!

All I can say is that my girls all look like the one on the right. More pics, or another week?
:( I'm keeping my fingers crossed for awhile more because they are so young. I'll take some more pictures this weekend when they are three weeks old, see if there is any difference. Right now they are both the same as far as small yellow comb, same wash down legs, feathering out at same rate. It's just the extra white that the one has that is the difference so far.

Yep, I have 6 barred Rocks, all from the same hatchery. There was a huge difference between the lightest and the darkest, but they are 18 weeks old now and are definitely all pullets.
