Well there 9 weeks old now and I am sure he is a rooster as his comb is real red and he acts like a roo, I just gave him back to the farm that gave me the eggs as he needed a roo and he said roo.
he was the sweetest and love to be held but he was wild and crazy in a good way.

Commenting on a question from Chikenbutwut, all of my barred rock hatchery chicks feather in slower than Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas. In this latest batch the Easter Eggers feathered and grew fastest, then the Australorps, then Barred Rocks and finally the little Dark Brahmas. When comparing feathering rate I try to stick within a breed, although I still don't see much of a trend with gender (although I haven't had many cockerels for comparison...more experienced breeders may see more of a trend). One of my oops roosters this year (BR) was also the fastest BR to feather, but he is obviously a boy... Lighter grey stripes, larger comb and already challenging everyone or thing at 4 weeks.

This is my top cockerel, will be 5 weeks from hatch Sunday...from a hatchery lot I got.

Here is one of my pullets from the same lot, sitting on my hand

Two cockerels, I know the front one is, pretty sure the one behind is too, he was an "I don't know" for a bit...but now...cockerel!

Bad pic, it was getting towards dusk, another of my pullets in my hand!

This is my biggest and top pullet sitting on one of the temporary roosts I put in till I get the real ones up. I can get her to come to me, but she just doesn't want the other girls to know she likes sitting on my hand, lol although she will jump on me while I am doing chores. I usually a 3-4 sitting on me while trying to get chores done

They think I am their jungle gym! There are 15 in all. I still can't believe they will be 5 weeks this Sunday!!!

These are in their coop, which is painted white to make cleaning easier and add light in the winter also!

The camera hog, with two pullets running to get in the picture too LOL

They dug a hole, found something??? Ya just never know with these guys and gals...my top cockerel and 3 of his pullets, checkin out what he "found" under the shaving in their coop. The baby feeder, behind them, has chick grit in it as I switched to "All Flock" and their run isn't done yet...praying for this week-end!!!

These are all from the same hatchery lot of 15 I got. Look how light he is compared to the girls, and much bigger too, although the lighting wasn't that great, was getting near dusk! To the right of the baby feeder with the chick grit, they have a hanging, big chickens feeder
