We have 9 chickens and total. This is nutmeg (picture #1 & #2) and Sapphire (picture #3, #4 & #5). I wanted to figure out what breed and sex Nutmeg is and what sex our silkie Sapphire *might be*. Both are 6 weeks old currently. I thought about getting them sexed but really nervous plucking feathers from the chest might hurt them. Any tips and points and guesses on gender are much appreciated. Thank You! 🐓

6 weeks is a little young to tell. The first chick (Nutmeg) is looking rather like a cockerel to me, though, based on the redness of the comb. As for the silkie, I would post pictures in a few more weeks, as they take a while to mature.

Nutmeg is an Easter egger cockerel

Nutmeg is an Easter Egger, and 100% a cockerel.
Sapphire is a silkie. It's still pretty early to tell the gender, but I'm leaning towards pullet for now. Obviously, this could still change, and she could end up being a boy.
